Amazing technology behind the 3d effects - and the Pandora enviornment and the critters in it is the most imaginative world since the first Star Wars (IMO).

That said, I agree with everyone else in that the plot has been done a million times over.

Interesting piece.....

'Avatar' arouses conservatives' ire - latimes.com

"Avatar" has, of course, far more on its mind than its politics. It's a triumph of visual imagination and the world's first great 3-D movie. But it is fascinating to see how today's ideology-obsessed conservatives have managed to walk away from such a crowd-pleasing triumph and see only the film's political subtext, not the groundbreaking artistry that's staring them right in the face.

oh please. every time I think I want to go see this movie, you pop off with crap like this.

No one is denying the technological triumph of this movie. However, if stunning visuals were all you needed for a good movie then "Showgirls" would have won an Oscar. Understand this, the story is JUST AS IMPORTANT as the visuals.

Cameron is a hypocrite, pure and simple. He decries capitalism and "big business" in this movie and yet as we speak he's laughing all the way to the bank. Just like that fat piece of s***, Michael Moore.

> Deal with it! If me posting a web-site keeps you from watching this movie and then having to read your interpertatious rantings later. GOOD.

> See it if you can get past yourself, then speak of story.

This movie is amazing in Imax 3D. If you choose not to see it, you are losing out.

Just saw this yesterday in 3D.

I thought the anti-military industrial complex, anti-corporate, pro-environment message was a little heavy handed at times. However, the visuals were amazing and overall it was a wild ride. The 3D is a must IMO. If you can look past the political stuff it is worth every penny of the price of admission.

It is kind of a dances with wolves meets matrix meets terminator movie....and amazingly, it works. I thought the story line was average to good. The Na'vi characters are basically 10 foot tall blue american indians. Even their language sound native american.

I saw it in Imax 3D... I just didn't think it was "all that," but then that is probably because I am a big story guy who likes to be made to think. That's not what this story was about. It was Dances With Wolves on another planet. It was White Guilt: The Movie.

you'd have thought that with the imagination on display throughout the movie, Cameron could have come up with a more original word. Using "unobtainium" was simply laziness on his part.
