Jury is out on Gordon. His first year was bad, but this year he was impressive. 1400 total yards and 12 TDs in 13 games ain't bad, especially considering they have line problems. 3.9 ypc is 12th of 20 guys who got 200+ carries, so not terrible.
The jury may be out on production or something, but I don't think the jury is out as to whether he is a good player. He is.
The hell it is, considering your original arugment was he was some kind of surprise pick. He was always considered a first rounder even before the Senior Bowl.
You keep moving the goalposts after you've proven wrong.
I would answer that in a two part answer. Yes, he was a bust for the saints as he didn't perform to expectations that massive amount of money carried. After he left NO, he had a few good years.
It was a surprise pick that he was picked that HIGH. I'm talking more about the fact he went #4 overall.
Rivers rise that year up the draft boards would be like Pat Mahomes going in the top 5 this year ahead of Deshaun Watson or Mitch Trubisky. That would be a surprise even if we have been hearing his name as a potential first rounder for the last couple of months.
Obviously as we got close to draft day that year you heard rumblings that San Diego loved him. But before the senior bowl him going 4th overall would have been a shock. He was much lower on the pecking order.
That is what I meant by surprise pick.
And as I said, you move the goalposts after you were proven wrong.
I didn't move any goalposts. It was a long time ago so I didn't get the specifics exactly right. But the essense of what I said was true. Rivers stock "SKYROCKETED" up the draft boards after the senior bowl. And in particular his stock was highest with the Chargers who were willing to take him in the top 5. No other team was going to take him that high.
He was a SURPRISE. Just like Pat Mahomes would be a surprise this year if he went in the top 5 even though his name has been out there for a while as a first round pick.
