Jarnell is finding his game.

Because of his lack of athletic ability, a guy like Noel (and yes, there aren't many of those) or just someone with long arms gives him problems. SC had no one who can guard him.

When he got hacked HARD by those two USCe players and they went sprawling was one of the more impressive things I've seen. He just stood there like a rock.

If I'm Martin, I'd tell Stokes to get at 250. He'so man strong. He'll never lose it. He needs to work on his explosiveness.

How can he do that? He already has pretty low body fat.

I personally like the way he smirks after 3 dudes bounce off him and he goes to the line. It's like he's saying, "deal with it, kids"

I'm a VFL and don't miss many games but what you guys are seeing is what you want to see. I think Stokes could be a top five player to ever wear a power T in basketball; however, he's lazy and takes plays and sometimes a whole half off. He's the only guy on our team that can dominate when he feels like it and the disappear for five and six mins at a time. I'm a huge advocate of CCM but I question his approach to Stokes. I'd be all over Stokes for not hitting the boards hard every play and not finishing strong down low. There's to much potential there to allow him to take plays off which Stokes does.

He is really just a little bit more than a freshman and he is really starting to look like a five star. I think he stays with us next season and he, Maymon, and AJ will dominate in the post.

Ill also add that our best line up is when Moore, Golden, Josh, McRae, and Stokes are on the floor. I'd be having Reese, Hall, and McBee play of the bench.

Where else will he go? He sure isn't going to the NBA...

how do you know what Martin says to stokes about rebounding? I mean the guy is averaging close to 10 boards on the year and definitely in SEC play.

yeah, he struggles finishing but he has bad touch around the rim and that is something you practice, not verbally berate him about.

if you have been watching, you can see that stokes has been better about finishing around the rim and with contact. that is a result of practice and development. if anything, Martin has done a great job with stokes compared to pre-sec play.

People just don't understand how hard it is for a post to be the main scoring option, the best rebounder, and the last line of defense, and do that for 35 minutes. You HAVE to take plays off.

And when I mean take plays off, I'm talking about not going for an offensive rebound you have very little chance of getting, or taking your time on a fastbreak for your team, or not picking up a cheap foul on a driver in the first half. Got to pick your spots.

My only complaint is that he doesn't "feel" his man in the post. He predetermines what he is going to do when he gets the ball. Takes a tad too much time.

But he's a great finisher, footwork is phenomenal, his rebounding has been extraordinary, and he is turning into one of the three best big men in the league.

Stokes has been awesome.

I think he was doing this based on the fact he never really saw these type of double/triple teams, and honestly didnt have to do too much to score, especially in high school. Who honestly would stop this kid in high school? I think we can see he is starting to develop his game very well and is making those shot fakes and moves he didnt make at the begining of the year. Im so excited for him, Maymon, and Hubbs next year!

I hope Maymon comes back healthy next year. This year without Maymon may be a blessing in disguise for Stokes' game.

That's a good way to look at it. I think with Maymon he would be putting up numbers but not having to work on his game as much. Early in the season showed what he needed to improve on. Being the main option was tough.
