Haha I like the show, but I never watched it when it was originally airing. I definitely don't know anything about the plot haha.

Touché, sir!

Lulz. Pull one of the other trillion Stokes threads. By mid-December, I was conceding that he was headed to UT.

Slow news week for UT sports, huh?

Primed for another letdown.

Meh. I was satisfied with this season. Dominated conference, won conference tourney, would've gotten an at-large. Tough L in the dance to a good team.

We should be better this season.

What's gonna happen around here if UT doesn't make the tournament this season?

Guess we'll never known will we?

I wouldn't be satisfied with this year from memphis. This is year 3, and all 3 years have been considered a disspointment that didn't meet expectations, except by some Memphis fans they claim all 3 seasons met expectation. They've not shown much improvement at all, if any actually. It appears Pastners MO is dominate the church league, can't beat top 25 teams, and either misses the tourney or loses in round 1.

If UT doesn't get to the dance next year then there will be a problem, and the Hart will start needing to evaluate certain areas of the program.

I'm not overly worried though, martins yea 1>pastner year 1, and Memphis made it in year 2&3. We shouldn't have too much trouble making the dance next year. As I said if we do, then some things need to start being looked at.

What's gonna happen if Memphis still can't beat a top 25 team this year and either misses the tourney or gets knocked out in round 1 again?

I appreciate your input, but you saying that Pastner's time has been a disappointment is like me saying CCM has been a disappointment. You're not a Memphis fan, I'm not a UT fan, so what does it matter.

Pastner just got a contract extension a few weeks ago. That should tell you what you need to know.

And not to get into a big thing about this, but how exactly was Martin's first year superioir to Pastner's? They accomplished the exact same thing.

Martin showed the ability to beat top 25 teams multiple times in 1 year. Something pastner hasn't done 1 time in multiple years.

As I said, what's gonna happen if Memphis has another year like the last 3, or misses the dance like year 1? That's meeting expectations again?

What are your expectations next year for Memphis, let's get those on record?

I don't care the first thing about what goes down in the regular season. Pastner has to start beating teams in the dance, that's a given, but this top 25 stuff is garbage. Xavier was a sweet 16 team, but wasn't top 25 when we beat them. Does that mean they weren't good?

If Memphis misses the dance, that's regression, which is not good. I always like to see improvement. We'll have a better team in 2012 than we did in 2011, so I would like to see winning conference and a six seed or higher. Barring another horrible draw from the selection committee, I'd like to see a sweet 16 appearance.

Fair enough. So you're expecting pastner to win 2 in the dance next year?

I'll do the same. My expectations are another good conference showing, hard to say where I expect a finish though, since we still have no idea what the SEC schedule will look like.

But make the dance, and have a good showing. Depending on the draw I can live with a first round loss but I'd like to see then win atleast 1.

I expect at least one win in the tournament next year. Get worse than a 6 seed and the probabilities of a second win diminish greatly, but he should be able to get one. That will be improvement.

But I'd like to see 2.

Isn't Memphis going to big east? That road to the NCAAs might be a little tougher than the rec league they are used to.

Martin and Pastner walked into grossly different situations. Apples and oranges comparison.

I don't know about that. Calipari raped the recruiting class for Memphis when he left. Weren't Wall and Cousins both committed to Memphis. And IIRC the Henry kid got out of his letter via Calipari's clause that basically made their commitment letters to Cal and not to Memphis.

I think Pastner is in over his head myself, but he did get a pretty raw deal that first season.

Off topic, but John Jenkins is leaving Vandy early, and going pro. They are gonna suck bad next year. Hope we sweep them.

Wall was not committed. Cousins I don't think was officially. He had been committed to UAB for a time I believe to play for Mike Anderson. He did decommit, and it was expected he would choose Memphis. Xavier Henry was committed to Memphis.

Point still being, Pastner came into a situation at a program coming off of a recent appearance in the national championship game. So, without regard to Cal's grotesque pillaging of Memphis' recruiting class, Pastner's introduction to the head coaching job was a far cry from losing 4 starters from a fringe tournament team, that was still facing the real possibility of getting hammered by the NCAA. This further hindered any recruiting effort CCM could have possibly mustered at the last minute.

Which job opening would have been more appealing to you? One with the momentum of coming off a recent national championship appearance, or the one potentially losing 85% of its offense, coming off a 30-point blowout in the first round of the tourney, and facing some potentially stiff penalties from the NCAA that you had no hand in?
