Jarret Guarantano better than most vol fans think

When you can't count on your QB, rather, when you have no faith in your QB to even to attempt to throw to close out a game on 3rd and long and are forced to run the ball, how is anyone going to believe that he is the guy.

We can have a second stringer hand the ball off and not throw on 3rd down as well.

Rather go down swinging than laying down.

If JG can't get it done, what does it matter if the next QB can't either, let's at least find out and throw the ball.

It’s abundantly clear that Chaney has zero faith in our starting QB in pressure situations, 3rd and long, etc..... A blind man can see it.

I have no idea who the best QB is on the team and none of you do either. I think the backups would benefit more by getting real playing time than giving JG more playing time against Chattanooga. In addition to the experience, they will either show us why JG is the starter or the will show the coaches that they might be the better in game option.
Why not try it??? Even if it costs a win against Chattanooga, I would be ok with trying it at this point.

Even if they are not the answer, worth finding out. They can hand the ball off equally just as well I would think.

Just teach them to eye off a db from the receiver, even if we all know that is where the ball is going and see if it makes a difference.

If we start JG I have to ask:

Are the other 2 that bad?

Why is it we didn't get a better incoming frshman recruit QB either year, or at least one you could believe could play as freshman?

Makes the A. Martinez decommitment look bad.......any recruitnicks remember/know if he was leaving regardless or did coaches help him make that decision?

I've been a big supporter of JG, but the guy has regressed. I know most people are saying "I've seen it all along!" but I will argue with you until I'm blue in the face. He was not this bad last year. His body language isn't even the same.

If I had to guess, I'd say he's broken. He went in week in and week out and took a beating last year. He's got his 4th different offensive coordinator in as many years.

To be clear, stats prove the o-line was awful last year. It's not this year. Everything has regressed. His accuracy, his decision making, his confidence.

BUT, if we look to a backup and he balls out, does Harrison Bailey still come? Because right now he's "trying to hold the class together". It might be worth it to see if a light comes on for Guarantano to get our guy for next year, because Bailey looks like the real deal.

Tennessee football: More stats favoring Jarrett Guarantano slam Vols OL

As I’ve said all along he is much better than some of you guys say or think. If the scouts are correct then Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert will be in the NFL draft. According to the sports source this morning in four categories Guarantano was better in three of them and tied the other.

Give this guy time and he will a top qb in the SEC.
Jesus man, if you have Sirius XM I suggest you listen to the replay of the first team with Greg McElroy, his take on JG this morning should be enlightening. He even said that he left points on the board and the opportunity to put the game away and also spoke of his reads or the lack thereof. The dude just isn't it. With that said, he believes that JG is the best option as of now only because of inexperience. Two years the kid has shown no signs of progress. I don't care what scouts say or what the stat line says, his play on the field speaks volumes! How many busts have there been in the NFL where scouts were high and mighty on? I can only assume you are blind and can only listen to UT football over the radio. I much rather lose at the hands of inexperience than incompetence.

While merely a scrimmage, you could see from the Spring game that JG wasn't improved. His stats are padded by short passes.
Actually, Guarantano can occasionally hit some nice mid to long passes. I would actually say his short passes are as bad as the mid/long because he throws them full strength. His problems seem to be he locks on 1, maybe 2 targets and gets tunnel vision, he cannot make quick decisions, and he seems to need lots of open space to throw into to feel comfortable (or maybe that is just a byproduct of 1 and 2). How many times has he had some nice throws to get us to the red zone, and then everything derails? Is it lack of development? Is it lack of skill? Is it being broken from previous years' beatings?

How much time does he need to show just a small sign of improvement. He has been afforded ample time, clearly not college level and for sure not NFL.

Stat pushers just QUIT, JG is not a very good qb. Just stop it. It's time to let somebody else play, most teams in the sec would not put up with it this long. GBO!

He seems to always want to rifle the ball. He doesn't seem to have the touch to throw back shoulder or a corner throw.
Is this the best QB we have?

He probably "rifles" it because by the time he reacts to the field, he knows his target is on borrowed time. Too slow to react. It's a perception issue or a fear of failure gone wild.

I have been a JG defender to friends due to his last two years of no line or time to throw and just flat out getting killed and getting back up and trying again. Saturday night against BYU he had days to throw the ball and could not make good decisions. He stared down his first read and many times threw to them even double covered and the times that he decided to throw to his check down it was far too late and they too were covered. I have never watched a game and seen a QB literally follow a receiver all the way across the field and then try and throw to him double covered. This guy doesn’t have it and I’m done defending him. Time for Pruitt to see the same and sit the kid. Next man up. We can lose with a freshman just like we can with JG.

Guarantano is like a Marcus Marriota type of quarterback only more durable.

He will be playing on Sundays and continue the legacy Peyton continued of great Tennessee quarterbacks in the NFL.

The fans need to get off his case and support him, he's one of the greatest to wear the orange and white.

Comparing a guy that lost to Georgia state and BYU to a Heisman trophy winner takes one hell of a stretch. JG can't even play on Saturdays, if you really think he makes an NFL roster then you sure are special.

isn't chris weinke the qb coach?

why hasn't tano developed under his tutelage? i agree with those calling for qb challenge this week for starting position.

JG's stats on paper look good but the stats don't show that he is late on every throw, he cant read a defense, and he gets inside his head to much. His potential is high and when he is confident he plays good. In most situations I don't believe alternating QB's works out but in Tennessee's case I believe a little competition would be beneficial for everyone.

You are a real piece of work. Eat your crow and hush until you learn something about football.

I'll agree with you on the Marriota comparison, neither can play

One of his biggest flaws since the first day he sat foot on the field. Its the same "non leader" language is body has spoken since day one.

I’m not against putting another QB in the game against Chattanooga if we get a good lead or if JG has trouble coming out of the gate. What could it hurt at this point.

Complaining constantly about nothing but the QB is lazy. Games lost the last 2 weeks are a result of failure to extend drives, convert critical 3rd and 4th and short yardage situations.

Yeah JGs INT was a critical mistake but would have easily been overcome by the team if they convert higher percentage of 3rd & 4th downs. JMO
