Jarret Guarantano better than most vol fans think

He’s a great QB, but even Peyton Manning would struggle with last year’s OL. Same with 2017, except that it was painfully obvious that JG should’ve never been classified as a dual threat QB.
No, that is wrong...PM had the best field vision of play as anyone who put on a Volunteer Uniform. P.S. His touch on the ball was also impressive!

Tennessee football: More stats favoring Jarrett Guarantano slam Vols OL

As I’ve said all along he is much better than some of you guys say or think. If the scouts are correct then Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert will be in the NFL draft. According to the sports source this morning in four categories Guarantano was better in three of them and tied the other.

Give this guy time and he will a top qb in the SEC.
HAHAAH!
Man he is not getting drafted. He is riding the pine. I don't care your measurables, he is not a gamer. I don't care how far he can throw it. He can't do it with the lights on after the worst loss in program history.

I feel like Guarantano will have a breakout year this year, he is talented and tough he just needs time to go through his reads, but we will see hear in a couple months, I think Jim Chaney will pay off as an off coordinator

he doesnt make his reads. Mcelroy even said he goes 'X, then safety valve', he leaves players wide open, and hits them late when they are...stares people down. no touch on passes. Guy just doesnt have it.

Pruitt needs to lay into JG and give someone else 1 team practice reps. If Pruitt does that, I predict JG to be in the transfer portal by the end of the week.

im sure if coaches felt like Maurer or Shrout were capable theyd get more snaps. if Gaurantano is this bad, imagine what layeth behind?

besides do you really want to march a green ear out to the meat of an SEC Schedule?

We are in a bad spot arent we?

I agree completely. It is so obvious. Maybe just Maybe if he wasn’t getting sacked so much at the beginning with TN he would be better but now he looks shell shocked. When Pruitt was chewing him out and JG not listening almost walking away is when he should have been benched.

We do know that JG is not going to win us any games. That's probably not going to change in SEC play either.

I said it last year, said it last week, JG is way over rated. He over analyzes and always seems to be off by a second or two. I would rather put in one of the freshman, and see what can be built up with one of them and lose, than continue to lose this way. He had no positive yards in the second half, its in his head. The oline played better, still need to tidy up some areas, but getting there. Jim Chaney has mostly worked with pocket passers, JG is not a pocket passer. 0-2 right off the gate, and its not going to get much easier. Right now, based on how we are playing, I would be happy if we can win 4-5 games, and thats pushing it. I hope they prove me wrong. But, until JG is replaced, its a hit or miss.

Pruitt laments Jarrett Guarantano's missed throws in BYU loss

He had the run support, and the protection, yet, we couldn't score in the second half. Only one turnover. Too easy to blame Taylor, for the long pass completion, late. But, in all honesty, it should have never come to that. O-line looked much better! Five yds/carry. D-Line wasn't bad. Three yds/carry. Against a much better team. The dump down, on 3rd and long, in OT, was way too quick. Settling for a FG.

I think the stats proves he is a great qb. Over 32% of running plays last season didn’t make it back to the line of scrimmage. He can go through his reads all day long but when you are playing Eat Tennessee State and they are only rushing three guys and he still doesn’t have three seconds to throw. That is a huge offensive line problem. In fact it’s offensive in every way possible.

Stats can be deceiving

why wait wait wait for possession receiver to get barely open, with one other open guy, then throw a laser beam to his pads?

I see nothing here.

I hate this argument. There are literally hundreds of examples of back-ups succeeding when given the chance. Baker Mayfield, Trevor Lawrence, Johnny Football, Jacob Fromm, hell even Josh Dobbs.

I don't care what happens in practice. We seen too many practice warriors fold when it really counts. When a player clearly isn't getting the job done, it's time for someone else to get a shot.

JG is an average quarterback, period. We are never going to turn the corner unless we make a change at that position. Also, find a new OL coach and recruit some wide receivers for the current class. To'oto'o, Crouch, Morris and Wright are gonna be studs. The future is bright but it sure sucks right now.

He seems to always want to rifle the ball. He doesn't seem to have the touch to throw back shoulder or a corner throw.
Is this the best QB we have?

JG on 3rd and 10 he throws a wild pass to Callaway for 8 and had JJ wide open in the middle of the field and could of had 15-20 yds in front of him and maybe more and JG never looked at him. On 4th and 1 Tn goes for it and does not make it. Oh we had 3rd and 4 once again and he throws it behind the line and ends up 4th and 4 and Tn has to punt. There were several passes that should have been ints. This is why Cheney only calls 4 or 5 plays. They have zero confidence in JG making plays with his arm. how many times was he late on the pass that McElroy called ? too many to count. If he is on the field Saturday, Chattanooga has a chance to beat Tn.

When you can't count on your QB, rather, when you have no faith in your QB to even to attempt to throw to close out a game on 3rd and long and are forced to run the ball, how is anyone going to believe that he is the guy.

We can have a second stringer hand the ball off and not throw on 3rd down as well.

Rather go down swinging than laying down.

If JG can't get it done, what does it matter if the next QB can't either, let's at least find out and throw the ball.
