I am going to say something that I will probably regret, but I'll say it without a shred of judgement on anyone, or with any wish anyone would do anything any differently because these young women are human beings first, basketball players second. So, here goes ...

The other day I said that if Key were to ever decide she wants to be a serious basketball player that the sky would be the limit for her.

Well, one of the reasons I suspect some of Jordans passes are getting past Key is because I suspect Tamari may be having to try to catch passes in a way that doesn't break her nails, which are always beautifully manicured and at least a half-inch long.

PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS AS I AM IN ANY WAY INSULTING TAMARI!!!!! As a young college-age woman who is obviously very feminine and beauty conscious, I applaud her for doing whatever makes her feel most attractive and confident. Her nails are absolutely gorgeous.

That said, they aren't exactly screaming, "I'm going all-in for basketball," either. And THAT'S OKAY!!!! Not every young woman is a tomboy who eats, sleeps and drinks basketball.

Some of them have nails they pay lots of money for and don't want to break them playing basketball. But I fully suspect some of her problems catching passes would go away if, say, she made up her mind to do away with the super-long, elegant nails for the post-season. :p

I sure hope people don't use this as a jumping-off place to harshly criticize her, because that's not my intent. I just wanted to give my hypothesis on why some of Jordy's passes slip her fingers.

LOVE YOU, TK. Your nails and lashes are lovely. 🧡

Yes, she can dribble and pass, she will be a huge assist

All D1 WBB players can dribble and pass but then you already know that. Jasmine, the player this thread celebrates (well almost celebrates), brings a lot to the team. She has experience playing (and excelling) against other good D1 players and that is invaluable coming from a new player. She will be someone who will be able to contribute from day 1.

Rickea will hopefully have a thread of her own soon.

Not true. Player should be able to catch ball.

Absolutely agree

I expected that response from you. You seem like the type to keep doing something even when it’s obvious it’s not working.

Did you expect it from me too.

Not every pass can float in, some have to be zipped and an interior pass often has to be a bullet-pass. There are drills for this and obviously they've not been done enough. A post, a driver and a shooter has to ALWAYS expect the pass and very often I see they don't.

Jordan and every PG in the world has to have the ability to both see openings as/before they happen and hit the appropriate pass...the other part of the equation is the recipient has to be ready and able to handle that pass.

If TK was taught correctly, she would signal and be ready for those passes before they got there. ANd if she is taught right, nails can't interfere....I have worked with as young as 10 and as old as 22 and one of the first lessons I give any of my ballers is "If you don't dictate what pass you want, you will get whhatever pass they want to give you. . .As a post TK's target hand should dictate the pass (finger up=lob, hand forward = direct pass and hand down = bounce)..ANd if it is any pass but a lob, TK should have her forefingers and thumbs together to creat a "diamond" target for the pass...If you make this diamond with you hands, two things,,,you can wrap up the pass on impact,,,and,,,in creating the "diamond" your fingers will all point upward and not forward, thus preventing jammed fingers and,,,,,broken nails

Sorry, NBB but Sisaq is straight up on this one

Did she just quit her team a few weeks ago or do I have that wrong? This is/was her 3rd year at Minnesota, yes?
Yes. She just left Minnesota after two and 1/2 years of being coached by an Olympic and WNBA champion point guard. Lindsay Whalen was about as tough as they came. Hope she has those kinds of instincts coming in.

Do I expect you to constantly promote yourself even when topics have nothing to do with you? Absolutely.
Didn’t see that as promotion. Thought it was a really interesting discussion of the passing game. I learned a lot. Not sure how this topic went sideways. But what the heck! JP is going to fire this passes to TK and anyone else slashing to the basket! Is stick’em legal in BB!?!

And if you are watching games on television, there are things you miss that you would see if you were at the game. There are times players just lack court awareness. And that second or two of not being entirely focused results in turnovers.

I feel like Kellie would have addressed the nails if they were a hindrance. Something we can all agree on is she is a lovely young woman with great fashion sense!

We can absolutely agree on her fashion sense!

Not sure I agree someone on the staff would say something even if they 100% certain she was worrying too much about her nails, though, because I'm pretty sure coaches aren't allowed to have that type of discussion with players. I could be misremembering.

You throw a pass you know your teammate can't catch to what, teach her a lesson? Bully for you but you still just caused a turnover. Read the room. Know your audience. Throw what they can catch and don't give the ball to the other team. Yes they should be better but don't give up a possession to prove they're not up to your lofty passing standards. That's dumb, and selfish.

The troubling implication is that the nails are a psychological hindrance that "scream" I can't be a tough basketball player bc I care most about looking pretty. As if you can't care equally about both. Don't want to insult TK my foot. It's highly insulting to say she chooses not to be the best "tough" player she could be bc it might chip a nail? TK sometimes indeed is not "tough" enough, but it's not necessarily related to degree of femineity in her fashion sense. Not related nor mutually exclusive.

LOL and right on cue, there's TK shown in the stands at the tourney touching up her lipstick!

Big part of distributing is decision-making. Why throw any pass, no matter how brilliant, you know is likely not to be caught? Who cares who's fault? It's a turnover you caused. Fix it in practice, not the game.

So that was a mighty leap you took to say my post supported any notion that you can’t be tough and care about being pretty. If you have a point you want to make, make it but I am not going to be your designated “straw man”.

Not your post! The one you were responding to. You correctly said if the nails physically hindered, they'd be gone. The INITIAL post said you can't be tough and pretty, and TK chooses pretty. Also said didn't want their post to be jumping off point for others to accuse TK, which of course, it is. I should have quoted the first one, sorry.

Lvocd, when a statement begins "I am probably going to regret saying this...." that is usually a good reason not to say it. You've played ball right? Did you catch passes with your finger tips? Heck, TK's nails might even be an asset because it they are a reminder to keep her palms open and fingers spread.

Not catching passes is about timing, awareness (sometimes she is just not looking for a pass), her body positioning and the pass angle (the problem often being that she is trying to catch a pass from a really difficult angle) and last but not least reaction time.

I firmly believe that the staff believes that they can coach her up to SEC levels of performance--and that she desires that.

I think we need to remember that good defenses will make a certain number of good plays that cause turnovers.

A good pass is one your teammate catches. A really good pass is one your teammate catches in position to score.

So in football any pass they throw to u and u didn't catch it is a bad pass until u catch it rite lmaooooo
