Jasmine Powell commits to the Lady Vols

i doubt it since she is finishing up classes this semester we will see Jazz next year but i would think she would arrive this summer to get a jump start in her TN classes. She wouldn't be a mid season transfer i don't believe.
I was just wondering seeing how Alyza Winston transferred to MS State from Michigan State is sitting on the bench in since she can’t play but I would assume she is still enrolled in classes at Michigan state?

what if rennie or saunders wants a covid year?
Right now they were going after a 2-3 Rickea Jackson star player that transferred from Miss St. Don't know how that will turn out still up in the air. One person says she is not coming so we'll see. I would think they are definitely going after one post. I wouldn't be surprised to see another scholarship or two open up and up to three transfers in. I think the staff will be fine with using all fifteen scholarships because they lose 6 players after next year and will still have six scholarships available for the 2023 class. No sign that Key will use her covid season so post players with experience would seem to be a must. You don't want freshmen being players you rely on at the five position.

Why would you assume Winston is still enrolled in classes at Mich State? Looks like she left at the end of the semester and joined MSST beginning in Jan. She's a student and part of the team, but not eligible to play yet.

Tell them "no", because there's no scholarships available?

Yeah I’m not sure that would be an option for them. If they wanted to continue academically and take advantage of the extra year they may be able to stay on as a manager rather than a player.

Nope, in the interview said she won't be back til April or May.

Also, when did she transfer ?

Powell could join the team March 21 as that is when a new session begins. If not then look for June 9th to be the date when a new full session begins.

She is finishing up classes and won't be able to visit again she said til late april/early mays She said this in reference to her coming back and putting on the jersey for the photo opp lol.

i also think she mentioned join the team in summer school because she put an emphasis on finishing classes which is why she would probably not come back if we hosted. Never say never but she didn't seem certain.

agree it would not look bad on kelly since they said its up to schools if theyhonor covid years.

I actually think it would look short sighted on Kellie to extend their scholarship past the initial agreement. They have gotten their scholarships honored and had time to graduate. Being real, it would actually not be good for the undergraduate players who remain in the program, as I am sure they all want the best chance to start competing for championships again. Having quality players come in for Rennie and Saunders once they graduate will be the best chance to do this.

Those 2 need to transfer

I honestly believe they won't get one from the coaching staff, but if they do were down to four scholarships.

Covid years do not count against scholarship limits.

Allowing the two players to return does no harm to the younger players. They can be practice fodder and might get garbage time in blowouts if they choose. Also it would be a bad look in recruiting to deny them what the NCAA offers. Other coaches would definitely use this in recruiting to demonstrate the 'hard hearts' of the Lady Vol program. How would your daughter feel about UT if a coach said, "See once they are done with you they will just throw you away." And if you know KJH, she will always be loyal to her players unlike some posters on this board.

EDIT: I spoke incorrectly the covid extra year DO count against the scholarship limit. The rest of the post is kind of OK :(

Are you sure about this? I was watching a LSU soft game and they said that they had to reduce their scholarship offers this past year due to player staying longer for their extra Covid year.

Dang, Son, you got transfer on the brainpan

You've made repeated posts about the need for players to transfer out of the program...including one saying that "all but 6 maybe 7" need to transfer.

Give it a rest already.

It looks like a prolonged drive-by because they spend almost all their time in other forums admonishing them to get rid of undeserving players there. Maybe they are a run-off specialist?

They count next year whether it is a covid year or not. They have the extra year but the scholarship total goes back to 15 regardless of extra covid eligibility. That was just for one season when you could extend your roster past 15 it is back to 15 next season.

Why couldn't they have that type of discussion?

I don't have the women's NCAA rulebook, but the 2019 one for the men which I have downloaded has a rule about fingernails.

Art. 5. Equipment that could cut or cause an injury to another player shall be prohibited, without respect to whether the equipment is hard. Excessively long fingernails shall be prohibited.

I think another problem which isn't mentioned much is the long hair. When it is braided it can whip around and hit other players in the face or eye. I would be shocked if there were not a rule addressing what can be woven into the hair, hairclips etc... That and the fingernails are safety issues.

On the other hand, last I read, the NBA did not have a fingernail length rule and some players would intentionally grow them sharp to cut other players with hand checks etc... I found that surprising and would like to see that verified by another source before I fully believe it.

I don't know how long any particular player's nails are on our team, but I will say that they could affect more than just catching the ball since the follow-through on a lot of shots rolls off the fingertips. They can cut other players or get caught in opponent's jerseys. If you are serious about the sport, you will keep them at a length that does not interfere with play. But that length might be open to interpretation as you can see from how vague the men's rule is.
This is nothing compared to Rhyne Howard hooking and pulling Key down to the floor in the SEC tourney. TK gets beaten up and no fouls called. She needs the nails to survive.

Yes, the covid extra year does not count against scholarship limit. Perhaps it is an issue with school finances or some limitation within the program.
EDIT: The above is incorrect. The poster was suffering severe delusions

Sorry this is not correct. Last basketball year (21/22) does not count against the 15 scholarships for womens basketball. This was an effort to accommodate seniors that lost their senior year. However, that was the policy for one year and only one year. After this year if some one uses their fifth year (the COVID year) their scholarship counts against the 15 scholarships.

Tennesse has traditionally maintained 13 (women) players on scholarship ( same as the limit on mens teams) so there maybe room for players to stay and extra year.

Thanks for the correction. I knew they went back for football, but thought they had different rules for winter and spring sports.
