Pretty sure it was Brentwood Academy. When they weren't exactly at their strongest either.
I get the point that TN high school football isn't on the level of many of the surrounding states, but the last 5-10 years has shown that despite the relatively low competition, TN cranks out some great individual football players. Sure, not on the level of FL, CA, TX, GA, etc, but Dont'a Hightower, Michael Oher, Patrick Willis, Harrison Smith, Randall Cobb, and many other high draft picks have come right out of our back yard.
Additionally the metro area in the middle of the state is growing so quickly that TN is becoming more competitive and putting out a greater number of D1 players than ever.
Sure, our best teams probably won't touch traditional powerhouses of GA, FL, NC, or even AL, but the top 2-3 players we've been producing have been arguably just as good or better than the top 3 of those other states (in the long term at least...some of those guys like Willis weren't highly ranked recruits). Tennessee high school football has shown that it puts out some high level football players.
An overwhelming majority of those kids should be Tennesse locks any given year. Of we'd gotten some of those kids we'd missed out on (for whatever reason) the past 5-7 years probably wouldn't have been so rough.
It's important that Butch gets those kids, and so far he's doing just that (though Jalen Ramsey and Alex Bars come to mind, both of those were nearly impossible pulls). IMO that's a sign of good things to come down the road. Getting them on campus is half the battle.
