Jaylen Wright leaving?

The 3 backs we have next season, all of which are quick and fast...plus the big feller at 230lbs we have coming in will make for a great backfield.

I know that 10 games into the season, we were rushing for 220 yards per game which was 2nd most in the SEC. Not sure how much we got in Columbia, but we ran ALL OVER Vandy so i would think we held that 220 per game average.

We have 3 ingredients that make us rush for so many yards:

1. Talented RBs...several of them.

2. A great coaching staff, whose offense throws for about 330 yards a game opening up the run...

3. A good Oline capable of running crazy fast tempo and opening holes

Thats how you average 550 yards per game and the no1 scoring offense in FBS.

Coach Hype is gonna be a legend

Respect the hustle. Bag secured. Congrats to Jaylen, hope he balls out next year. Lord knows if he doesn't all the old geezers will be giving him **** about his NIL deal.

Gray knew what he was doing accepting money and whatnot. Let’s not pretend like these are 10 years old kids who have no concept of right and wrong.
You do know many many Vols have accepted money, apartments, jobs for parents and siblings, and especially cars over the last 40 years to play in Knoxville.
Gray is not a big villain in this story.
At least he had the class to not play for one of our most hated rivals.
And he wanted to stay, but was told to go. That counts for something in my book.

What’s the problem with that? He’s getting paid like a pro, he can take criticism like a pro if he underperforms. That’s how pro sports works. It’s not personal, just bidness. Welcome to college football 2023.

How about us letting the staff settle this. They see them every day and make the big bucks to win which they seem to be pretty good at. GBO!

I don't recall trying to settle it myself, so I don't get your point. I'm just saying that this stuff is going to happen, and to get all bent out of shape every time is ridiculous. Wright, if he was going anywhere, wouldn't be the first and won't be the last.

Be nice if we could pro-actively deal with these issues before they arise. What’s the point of having these NIL companies? This should be happening before the season ends.

That said, Heup has shown he is going to run the ball. I’d love to see a bigger emphasis on the run next year. That Vandy game was my kind of ball.

Smalls has been tough and played entire year injured. Hopefully he comes back healthier than ever. Wright has steadily gotten better and is on the verge of breaking out. He has a great combo and strength and vision and speed. Sampson is very fast and will be a special player and his carries will grow. And the new recruit coming in is a big addition. I like our running back stable going into next year. A very seasoned group. GBO!

Seems like our coaches got a good handle on things. Didn’t mean to direct that at you, sorry about that. It was more directed toward folks saying we don’t need Wright anyway before knowing one way or the other. He is a very talented back. I am glad he is back. GBO!

It seems to me Smalls is underrated by some Vols fans.
He is consistent, protects the ball, and doesn't get tackled for loss very much at all.
He is not elusive but he seems to break a good number of tackles that lead to big gains.
He and Wright both are the best backs we have had since John Kelly.

And Sampson is pushing them. We have a great stable of very talented backs.

Smalls 840 yds from scrimmage, 5yd avg, 15 TDs
Wright 883yds, 6yd avg, 10TDs
Sampson 421yds, 6.9yd avg, 6TDs

Thrilled to have him back as well. We're definitely loaded right now at RB.

Again .... new world...I remember kids playing for the love of the game and I remember loyalty .... With Sampson behind him and the backs coming in, I find it odd

Sure. Because kids haven’t always been getting paid to play. Lol. :)

Exactly… because college athletes were never criticized prior to NIL opportunities…. What is up with these people that act like college sports were so pure before NIL? I just don’t get the false nostalgia narrative. I think it’s good that these kids can profit and have the freedom to transfer if they were lied to or if things don’t work out and they have an opportunity to get playing time elsewhere.

I’d love to also see a breakdown on this:
who breaks more tackles
who has more breakaway speed
who is a better blocker in pass protection

1. Smalls between the tackles but Wright in the open field
2. Samson, Wright, Smalls
3. Smalls and right now, it's not even close.

Also, apparently, the coaches had more confidence in Smalls holding onto the ball. It would be good to see Samson and Wright be able to get involved in the passing game coming out of the backfield.

That is fantastic he is returning. These running backs are under appreciated. Wright is sneaky good along with Small. Proven SEC caliber backs that know this offense are major assets. I think Wright will be explosive and keep improving just as he did this year. Again fabulous news and use of NIL.

No question that it wasn’t pure before but it’s a whole new world now. Pretty sure none of them were getting millions. My complaint is there is absolutely no control and I believe we have only seen the tip of the issues (such as jealousy among teammates) and the tampering with players and recruits.
