I heard Sean Salisbury today on ESPN radio say that the Titans will face the dilemia of which QB to choose in the upcoming draft; Vince Young vs. Matt Leinart. Salsbury views Young as more raw and will eventually be a great QB and is favored by the front office of the Titans. However, Leinart is ready to be a winning QB in the Norm Chow system from day 1 and is favored by the coaches of the Titans who know that another year or two of not making the playoff that they will likely be given the pink slips.

How does this affect Tennessee? Well let's suppose that things do not turn around with the football team and mediocrity again holds sway over the next year or two. With a university of Tennessee's magnitude looking for a head coach and a proven winner(Jeff Fisher) needing a job just up the road, see where I'm going???

No, I not pulling for UT to lose so we can get a better HC but I'm just extrapolating on what Salsbury said today. Great thinkers are always looking years down the pike.

If and when the Titans and Fisher cut ties, he will immediately get another NFL job.

Yep . . . He's an NFL guy through and through.

You're smoking something alright. :D
Watch the draft and if VY is selected the JF has a least 25% chance of being in Knoxville in 2008!

...and it would be a really popular decision if Fulmer got canned for the University to give the job to a failed NFL coach with no collegiate experience.

Successful NFL head coaches don't take the step down to colege ball.

Fisher would probably spend a year as somebody's defensive coordinator and then get another head job.

We are talking about a "fired" HC. PS if you had the choice of a HC Fisher or Fulmer for college or pro who would you choose??

I'm curious Rockydoc, in your opinion, why did the Titans suck last season?

I wouldn't call Fisher a failed NFL coach.

Fisher has lasted 11 years. It doesn't even matter what his record is. To last that long as an NFL head coach makes him successful.

I think you're right Hat . . . he might not even have to wait a year or two to get another job.

Not because of lack of coaching. They had injuries particularily at QB, lack of a great RB or WR. The Travis Henry drug situation, Also I don't think their personel was suited to Chow's offense which has many checks ath the line. You can read between the line whatever you wish.

(Why Titans sucked last year)

Even though I'd call this a messed up scenario to begin with... just look at Callahan at Nebraska. Even less NFL success than Fisher, and this past season he was only 2 or 3 wins short of Solich in his final season before getting the axe.

I see, so some things that were out of the coaches hands actually hurt them as much as anything? I just don't see how that's possible. It all lies with the coaching.

If the Titans draft ML the they are back in the Playoffs for years to come, baring injury.

No matter which guy they take, it will be at least 2007 before he is able to make an impact of any sort and probably 2008 before he is a truly competent NFL QB.

Only if they join the Arena League. Indy and Jacksonville are both vastly superior to the Titans, and that's just in their division.

Maybe, I don't really even know what goes on with them. I don't like them. I was just curious as to why you are so hard on Fulmer yet think Fisher is still among the elite.

I'd take VY if I were them..

OWB, must I spell it out for you....McNair and Volek were not able to run Chow's system!! McNair definitely won't be back. I don't know about Volek.Leinart will be a great fit but would lessen UT's chance of him being available when the next HC coaching job comes open. I knoe Jeff loves the state and enough moolah woule make him at least consider.

I'm hoping for Leinart as a Titans fan... Vince Young might pull an Eli now that they've dissed his role model McNair.
