GET REAL!! Or as some around here like to say "get jiggy" (?) per the VN personnel.

No thanks, Fisher is an NFL guy.

Besides Rockydoc, to blame last season's record for the Titans on the players and last season's record for UT on Fulmer is pitiful at best. Fisher has coached 9 wins out of the past 32 games. With that record, Fulmer wouldn't be here so why should we want Fisher...

Ridiculous, another thread ending up bashing Fulmer. Maybe one of these days the UT fans will be behind the entire team, coaches included.

Look, I'm sorry this thread has been hijacked by the Fulmer haters vs the Fulmer idolotars but the simple fact is that UT will replace the head football coach within the next 5 years IMO. Soon, like 1-2 years, if the downward slide continues (which I predict) or later if Fulmer is sucessful in righting the ship inasmuch as my sources tell me he will not coach much beyond the age of sixty. He is 55 now.

Some on this board can choose to fret over the trivia like who was the better QB last year or how the numbers are stitched on the game jerseys or they can start speculating about the future which is much more fun. I think to at least to think of getting a coach with a professional background would be a paradigm shift for the UT program and would ultimately be good for the program. :gun:

Hijacked? This has nothing to do with Fulmer haters vs Fulmer lovers. Looks to me like it's 3 pages of the lovers and haters uniting to shoot down this pie in the sky.

I knew this wasn't the Hoover Institute Think Tank when I speculated that the next head coach at Tennessee might not be a decipile of Fulmer-----Majors------Dickey------Neyland etc, but I'm a little dissappointed that some of you guys (like Volunteer) who can think outside of the box are ganging up on me (Freak please throw a flag for piling on).

If it were not for Earnie Grundfield(sp) suggesting the name of Bruce Pearl to our AD, possibly we would have had Buzz again this past year as head coach. (I know M. Hamilton, thru his surrogate(? LIO), is reading this post. So I hereby give him permission to use the idea as his own to pursue a Jeff Fisher, Steve Marrucci, Mike Shannahan, a Jon Gruden if and when he has an opportunity to hire the next head coach at UT. You do not have to give me any credit).

To say I'm bashing Fulmer by suggesting the possibility that he might be fired or retire in the future is ridiculous. (It is my personal opionion that Bruce Pearl likely will not be the head coach in five years (will move to a higher media profile area) but this does not mean I'm a "Pearl Basher").

if you look at the hall of fame every great coach has had a season like this, he'll get them back together

The problem rockyquack is that you are assuming that just because a coach has NFL experience he will be a great NCAA coach and the two do not equal the same type of coaching. You can name former NFL coaches that have done good but you can name just as many who have flopped and the other way around. For every one Jimmy Johnson there are how many Steve Spurriers are there? You stated that great minds look ahead. But great minds who do look ahead do not avoid facts.

If you get behind Fulmer, you'll never get around him.

I've followed UT for years and have yet to see any coaches begging for any fans to please stay. One thing I'm sure of is season tickets are always tough to get, always have been. It's like Nissan Manufacturing Plant(employs over 6000, pay 50,000 plus a year) if you don't want to work here, quit gripping and get the hail out of here and we'll hire another applicant out of the thousands on file. I mean, I'm sure they could give a rats a$$ if part time fans (only when were winning) support them monetarily, psychology or anyway for that fact.Meanwhile, the real fans stay patient and ride it out.I guess it,s called fan attrition.Although, the fan base widens every year. :dunno:

Yeah, tickets were real tough to come by for the Vandy game last year. "The fan base widens every year." At least the fan base and our head coach have something in common.

I see, so some things that were out of the coaches hands actually hurt them as much as anything? I just don't see how that's possible. It all lies with the coaching.
First of all, Jeff Fisher is very well respected around the NFL as a top tier coach and would be near the top of most teams lists for a new coach if he were to be fired. As far as the Titans recent woes go it does not all fall with the coaching. UT was one of the most talented teams in the nation and flopped. The titans on the other hand were the youngest team in the NFL and lost several of thier key players from previous years to the salary cap. On top of that, they brought in a completely different offensive system. In addition, The only receiever with any experience was drew bennett and the rest of the group had little time to develop any chemistry with McNair because of course he did not have a enough practice time due to injury. The Titans have been in a rebuilding mode, something EVERY nfl team will go through during the salary cap era.

I know holdem, I was just being sarcastic since Fulmer gets blamed for everything. I know there's a lot more to it than just coaching alone. Others don't though.

Sorry about that, I just went on a rant because I just got through listening to a bunch of "fulmer and Fisher should both be fired" here at work, and then I read this thread.

No, we just don't a coach who hasn't won anything since 1998 gets a free pass.

Didn't exactly see the place filled for Memphis or Ole Miss last year either. "Never hard to come by?" Check out where the '85 Vandy game ranks on the pre-expansion attendance list. Also, I don't remember Vandy being an easy ticket in '97. Of course, that was the last chance for the Manning worshipers to see their beloved hero at Neyland. Actually, since the game was played at Dudley Field, the '98 UT-Vandy game was a scalper's delight.

Actually, I never use "jokes." I simply wait for someone to set me up by mentioning "widening fan bases" or something similar. I simply play off the opportunities I am given.

It's still several months until kickoff. I don't bring out the "A" material until it's showtime.

Having gone to plenty of games, a lot of our fan bases are pretty wide. What happens to all those girls I used to see a UT in the spring in those sun dresses?

They now have three children and are part of the "widening fan base."
