JEFF FISHER TO TENESEEEE???

Way to stick to the original thread Volbeef and Hatvol. :banghead: Can't you two go 24 hours without name calling. I was hoping someone had some original thoughts on a replacement on our aging and lately unproductive HC in the next 1-5 years(reasons stated in prior posts). Sorry I even brought the dang topic up! :fool:

Maybe if the thread weren't begun on such an absolutely ridiculous premise, people would have stayed on topic.

How many times do we have to unanimously tell you that Jeff Fisher isn't coming to Knoxville for anything other than to pass through on his way to a vacation in the mountains?

There's a better chance that Carrie Fisher or Bobby Fisher will be the next coach at UT.

There's a better chance that EDDIE Fisher is going to be the next head coach.

Remember this smarty-pants; They laughed at Gallileo. A prophet is ridiculed in his own hometown. :biggrin2:

Hey hate, I agree with you 100% on that statement.

I am 100% positive that Gallileo was not a prophet, smarty-pants.

Also, on pure odds alone, it is much tougher to finish with a National Championship in NCAA football than win a World Championship in the NFL. Fulmer has his...Fisher does not.

i dont think Jeff Fisher would want to come to Tennessee after being in the NFL unless the pay was great

Maybe on odds alone but if you take away the cupcakes in the NCAA and add a playoff system I think the NFL would have the edge.

ATTENTION, YOU ARE HEREBY NOTIFIED THAT THIS THREAD IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED! (since no one could offer any enlightment other than to attack the original poster, yours truly)

However, I've been granted a final blog on the matter and offer the following salient points:
1) There appears to be two incongruant lines of thought why JF will not be coming to Tennessee; the first being since he has had a couple unproductive seasons that he is a loser and that no one, college or pro, would want him; the second line of thought being that he has already proven his excellance as a coach and that another pro team will snatch him up immediately. These arguments are contradictory.
2) Many of the naysayers feel that ex-pro head or assistants generally fail when they become college head coaches. Some do, but many have spectacular success in college ( Charlie Weiss, Nick Saban, Bill Arnsbarger, Pete Carroll to name a few)
3)To compare a Jeff Fisher's recent losing record to Phil Fulmer's is totally an error of logic. Because of the bias for parity in the pros, the teams with the most wins are penalized by having lower draft choices also their star players are harder to jettison when they get old because of previous success and loyality for their prior contributions to glory seasons. Consequently a great coach can be stuck with an old team with years of lower draft choices.(You may see four or five year dynasties but not 10-15 year dynasties for a single coach). In college it it is the opposite. A winning program generates national exposure and makes recruiting easier. Look at Florida State until recently as a good example.
4)Don't tell me UT cannot afford a pro type coach. We lost 18 million dollars by not going to a BCS bowl last year albeit much of this goes to conference sharing. If we can pay our women's BB coach 1 mil. we can pay the cashcow program(men's football) head coach 3-5 million if necessary.

your right, in the NFL you can lose 3-5 games and still be #1 in your region, in college, all games are vital and one loss can take you out of a BCS game

I heard Sean Salisbury today on ESPN radio say that the Titans will face the dilemia of which QB to choose in the upcoming draft; Vince Young vs. Matt Leinart. Salsbury views Young as more raw and will eventually be a great QB and is favored by the front office of the Titans. However, Leinart is ready to be a winning QB in the Norm Chow system from day 1 and is favored by the coaches of the Titans who know that another year or two of not making the playoff that they will likely be given the pink slips.

How does this affect Tennessee? Well let's suppose that things do not turn around with the football team and mediocrity again holds sway over the next year or two. With a university of Tennessee's magnitude looking for a head coach and a proven winner(Jeff Fisher) needing a job just up the road, see where I'm going???

No, I not pulling for UT to lose so we can get a better HC but I'm just extrapolating on what Salsbury said today. Great thinkers are always looking years down the pike.
 Step one just occurred today. The Titans front office selected Young, much to the chargrin of Fisher and Chow. Now they will struggle until he becomes a polished NFL QB(if ever) and Fisher will be canned about the same time as Fulmer retires or is terminated and if Hamilton is smart he will have a contract waiting to be signed for the next University of Tennessee head coach. :biggrin2:

Do you think Fisher would be successful at Tennessee. I mean you cant beat NFL experience, just look at Charlie Weis (sp)

I do, but that is only my opinion. My point is for the next hiring at UT is to abandon the inbreeding that has occurred since the Dickey hire in 1964 (which was a good move). WE NEED NEW BLOOD.
