Jeremy Pruitt suing the NCAA

I know better that to go back and look at those new hire pressers from the past.

Just brings back bad memories.

Happened to see a clip from Dools presser somewhere a while back. Guy looked like a dear in headlights man. Overwhelmed. He held it together, but you could tell he wasn't ready for that kind of attention focused solely on him.
Lol. Admittedly I don't remember what was actually said in the presser. I just remember he kept saying aight after every sentence. He gave off southern small town football coach vibes.

Pruitt does not want to open himself up to discovery procedures that could lead back to the programs he coached. On the flip side, UT, FSU, UGA, and Bama don't want their former coaches and ADs to testify under oath about payments either.
That's why I am sure Pruitt's angle is a deal for the removal of his Show Cause in order to coach again.
I would bet all 4 programs want this sideshow to end and none really care if Pruitt gets to coach again, or not.
He has no reason to go up against FSU, UGA, or Bama. He was absolutely right about his dismissal; he was the scapegoat. What he did was no different than what coaches all over the SEC were doing at the time and 60k is chump change in today's NIL landscape. The cash in the fast food bag was just so inept that he deserved to be busted. If he wasn't a slimy Bama guy then he might've been treated differently. But he was an embarassment to the program, much like Dooley & Jones. Fulmer really screwed us with the hire.

I gotcha

In hindsight, I wouldn't even give him that high of a status.

Small town football coach vibes-at least to me would be-will work you to death, but once you earn their respect-they will be a worthy mentor. Old school no doubt but in the end a decent man and part of the community.

Pruitt to me was just the guy who stuck around at a job and saw everyone else around him promoted. Eventually, they thought he must have learned something along the way so he finally got promoted also. Things being predictable-pf course he fell flat on his face.

Pruitt had seen success in action. He knew what other people did to succeed. He just didn't know the secret sauce-so decided to take the short cut and pulled out some cash instead
Granted that was probably part of the secret sauce back then anyway for everybody-but ability to motivate and mentor your players is another part. Pruitt just didn't have that. At all.

But at that time it was still illegal to pay players. The $ amount is not a factor, its the act itself that got the NCAA involved. Getting turned in and caught is the difference between what Pruitt did and other SEC coaches.

Pruitt was a decent defensive coordinator, and could evaluate player talent, but should have never been a head coach for any major program.

Because of Pruitt's dumb butt and what preceded him, it is now hard to have any serious critical discussion about Heupel, without everyone getting all panicky that the UT admin will let him go and hire another goober to be the head coach of the Vols.

Have confidence, AD White knows what he is doing unlike our interim AD when Pruitt was hired.

What I don’t understand is why any or all of these kids that have been paid have remained quiet. Of all the schools, Bama, Georgia, us Ohio St etc. that supposedly have paid players all of these years (decades) have remained quiet. It seems, especially being young, some would brag or, develop hard feelings because of failure and tag the coaches/program like the Auburn kid did back in the early 90’s.

If all of these schools were cheating, there would have to be hundreds upon hundreds if not thousands of kids being paid but yet nothing ever gets out except rumors of Chargers from Bama.

How can he be a scapegoat when he is the one who initiated and carried out the plan to cheat? He was the ringleader. A scapegoat is usually an underling who takes the blame.

I think the angle is trying to prove the NCAA knew others cheated and did nothing, then came after Pruitt and UT when UT wanted rid of him.

Many, many, many people here believe the NCAA cheating enforcement was biased and capricious so Pruitt is trying to make the same argument.

He's probably right if lots of people on VN are right. The NCAA and schools don't want to talk about that in open court.

You are seriously underestimating the good ole boy network my friend

Many of the older players probably got decent jobs through that network after their 4 years of playing for Bear. They were probably underqualified to be a short order cook at the local diner. Most likely lived a fairly decent life-some ups some Downs and probably a little bit of fun along the way.. Everybody in the state wants to talk about Bear/Saban and you got the next best thing right in the next office.

Why upset the apple cart way after the fact? Admit basically your entire adult life has been kind of a fraud because you went through life with kind of a cheat code?

Hell, I would wager most of us got our current jobs through some sort of networking. Buddy you used to work with a decade ago sees something pop up at his company, thinks you would be a fit. Tells his bosses, gets you an interview, and you take things from there. We all know those online job applications are an exercise in futility.

I agree with you, but take football out of the conversation, and it's still pretty much the way the world works. Social networking is a powerful skill, even if it's the only skill you have.

Some have come out and talked. A couple of former, disgruntled players alluded to being paid by Alabama.

However, most probably don't want to do it because they do have a loyalty towards their coaches and programs even after they graduate. Look at our VFL crowd.

True, but my point was that I'm sure most of the players didn't really need the social networking part. Just the fact that they had played for Bama.

Somebody told them-hey, go to this address at 9AM Monday and talk to Mr Jasper.

They were given some job they were patently unqualified and made a decent life out of it.

Deep down they know it.

Put yourself in that position. You are 65-70 years old. Would you come out and admit you got paid when you were playing (illegally) and have been kinda taken care of by the program most of your life.

Nope. You keep your mouth shut ha ha.

Cornbread had the coaching skills of Dooley and Butch and had a shi*** personality to boot. There was nothing likeable about him but Fulmer was like "Oh Yeah, that's my guy". 2020 was our Rock Bottom and thank god we got Danny White to come here.

Well, I got roasted for doubting Fillmore. And in all honesty, I hated being right about it.

If you combine Lane Kiffin's ethics, Derek Dooley's coaching ability, Butch Jones leadership ability, and a 75 IQ, you end up with Jeremy Pruitt.....
