For all of his negatives, including the personality of a tree sloth, remember JG lead UT to four NCAA appearances in four years including a sweet sixteen and a conference championship (tie).

It appears that we may not make the Big Dance this year unless we get hot in the SEC tourney. I'm not suggesting that Green is better than Pearl but his results are comparable so far.

Don DeVoe went to the NCAAs each of his first five seasons, won an SEC Tournament and an SEC title, and made a Sweet Sixteen.

A very good coach whose style was made obsolete when the NCAA adopted the 45 second clock.

Also if my memory is correct he (DeVoe) is the last Tennessee coach to win the SEC tournament.

Jerry Green was handed some of the most talented players in UT history from his predecessor. He took those kids in his last year to one of the most disappointing situations I can ever remember. They totally collapsed.

Sounds eerily similar to this team.

Maybe Coach Pearl should hire DeVoe as an assnt coach to teach DEFENSE...He was a brilliant defensive coach.

As I've said many times, Green's post UT employment tells you all you need to know about his coaching acumen.

I heard Hooker say last week that when Green and our team were down for the SEC tourney, he was talking to another coach "off the record" about playing UT. The coach said something like "Tennessee has more talent than anyone in the league, but you always have a chance against them as long as the silver haired wonder is roming their sideline."

Pretty much sums it up. We had a chance to beat Carolina in the NCAA tourney, should have, but he got outcoached.

This.

They won despite Green, not because of him. And as pointed out, he's not coached since. It's not like anyone was scrambling to hire him after we got him. Not to mention he did nothing to promote the program.

How many of those "talented players" are or ever were playing in the NBA?

Not trying to defend Green as I waas happy to see him go but his results were comparable to Bruce Pearl's and infinitely better the likes of Peterson, O'Neil and Houston.

His results weren't really all that comparable to Pearl's. He had one somewhat decent year. In which he had Final 4 talent and made it to the sweet 16.

You could make a case that Pearl had Final Four talent last year. Certainly I think he has more talent this year than the worse Jerry Green team.

You'd be VERY wrong on the first point. I'd also disagree with the second.

Last years team had Elite 8 talent, if they would have drawn the right team, at best. Jerry Green had some talent while he was here. This team did not fill the holes as well as some thought, and they have no chemisrty at all. Pearl has had to adjust mid stream, cause these guys can't play the hectic full court D that he loves. That means you better be good in the halfcourt, and this team is not.

Name one All American that Green had in his four years. At least Pearl had Lofton. If the likes of Isiah Victor, Charles Hathaway, Toney Harris, Ron Slay, C.J. Black, Vincent Yarborough, ad Jon Higgins were very good they would still be in the NBA.

The North Carolina team that knocked us out of the round of eight had more talent than us.

I didn't know Lofton was having such a successful NBA career, since that seems to be your criteria for "very good".

I didnt realize if guys didnt go to the NBA then they must have not been very good. Thank god that Chris Lofton clown is gone and we can get some NBA talent in here.

How bout hiring Keven O'Neil back. He seems to be cooling his jets on the bench in Memphis with the Grizzlies...

Isiah Victor was an immensely talented post who Kevin Oneill claimed could have won him 10 more games if Doug Dickey had allowed him to be eligible. Charles Hathway was a McDonald's All-American who never lived up to that potential but was still a force inside defensively. Toney Harris was also a McDonald's All-American from Memphis who was 10 times better his first three years than his last with Coach Green. Ron Slay was SEC player of the Year and played at Oak Hill Academy in High School, and now plays European ball like Lofton. C.J. Black was probably the best defensive post player in the last 10-15 yrs at Tennessee. Also he could step out and shoot the three and was also pretty highly rated out of high school. Jon Higgins was a career 45% three point shooter,, we could definitely use him now. And Vincent Yarborough was also a McDonald's All American who was starting for the Nuggets a few years ago. So, to kind of sum this up, obviously making an argument that Pearl has had more talent than Jerry Green makes you look pretty stupid.

Take away anything complementing the play of Charles Hathway and Higgins and I completely agree with this guy.
