Jersey Wolfenbarger to TN!!!

I'm happy with transfer....Key couldn't guard 99 yr old grandmother.....
Boo for talking trash about Tamari who had a very nice career but one derailed by health issues. She was a shot blocking machine!

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Averaged 7.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and a school career-record 2.6 blocked shots in 131 contests with 107 starts.
  • Finished with 1,040 career points to rank 48th on the program's career scoring list.
  • Her total of 347 blocks stands as a Lady Vol career record and the No. 6 mark in SEC women's basketball history.
  • Her two career triple-doubles rate as a Lady Vol best, as do her performances in 2020-21 and 2021-22 that tie her with three other players for the UT single-season mark.
  • Her 59.0 field goal percentage ranks No. 5 on UT's women's hoops career list.
  • She led Tennessee in season field goal percentage and blocks in four different campaigns (2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2023-24).
  • She owns five of the top six single-game Lady Vol blocks performances, including the No. 2 effort of 11 vs. Texas A&M on Jan. 6, 2022.

Key had two triple double with blocks rebounds and points and has the season record for most blocks.

She was a classic "paint" defender but she was rendered vulnerable by posts who could step out and shoot threes.

Ah, yes the mighty Sith lord "blue hairs".

From my recollection, there were intitial concerns about her lack of recruiting experience at the power 5 level but had nothing to do with hiring outside of the Summitt tree.

But once CKC brought on Lazo and Tubner as assistants, that concern dropped rapidly.

Sorry, I hate to spoil the party, I understand the narrative that everyone hates the LVs and is praying day and night for CKC to fail (and I am morally righteous for being the ONE person who wants CKC to "prove her haters wrong") is incredibly addictive.

It is just no fun to bask in good news unless you can lambast mythic enemies!!!

The reality is that Coach Caldwell had just about everyone at hello (during her intro press conference).
She is purty … 😉🤙🏼

You’re behind.

Strickland is gone, Barker is in and Robertson rounds us out at the SG
I have been keeping track with a Word doc and for some reason the version on my phone hasn't updated from the cloud so it was an old version. I failed to notice that before pasting into the thread. Anyway, Robertson is the one I was missing. Thank you for helping out.

One meaningful component of last year was the players liked each other and were not personally stats conscious. the three new additions, hopefully will buy in to yet another team, another system, and another coach (style).
The former Arkansas coach adknowledged that he had not prepared Wofenbarger adequately to ultimately become a professional. I wondered in the few games I remember watching, what position is/should she be placed.

remembering the recent interview with Coach Caldwell, needed to recruit from the portal and then a vacation. well earned

I've watched Jersey play several games and have always thought she played (sometimes) ineffective because she was being posted. She's not a post.....she's a big wing. I'm optimistic that Jersey, should she meet the cardio demands, will fit Kims plan perfectly.
She was more effective at LSU because she had a defined role in the post. It worked better when the opposing team didn't have the girth to push her off; if they did, it didn't matter how much taller she was then them. She's not built for inside.

She played reasonably well in stretches during her freshman year, but her sophomore year she looked like Pissott did at Tennessee: just stood on the perimeter waiting for the ball and bricking a three.

Her potential is running the floor and scoring in transition. If she regains her court vision, she could be a great facilitator as well. I'm intrigued to see what CKC can do with her.

"Jersey will provide size and speed, which is the perfect combination of what we are looking for. She is a transition player who will help make our team faster and is one of the best rim runners out there. She will be a great fit here."
Lady Vols coach Kim Caldwell
I was surprised that she didn't play more in the 2 LSU-Tenn games. Mulkey basically went with 4 guards and Aneesah in the post for the first game. She's a mobile big, who theoretically should have been able to get a ton of open layups once LSU broke the press.

I am glad you mentioned her freshman season. Some have been dismissive of her entire college career, yet she made the All-SEC Freshman team. Addendum: Also note that her sophomore year is that same team that Spencer was on that became a dysfunctional mess for all the players.

Conference All Freshman Teams are too inclusive IMO. They honor waaaaay too many where basically any freshman who got meaningful playing time were getting named. Having said that, you could see during her freshman year that Jersey certainly had skills.

The thing I noticed with her, and that needs to get better, is her hands. She fumbled a lot of entry passes and too often rebounds with her fingers instead of her hands and tips the ball more than she should. She was way below Smith in that regards, and I think that's why she wasn't eating into her minutes. If she can address these two shortcomings, she will be a hell of a player.

I certainly like her or Janiah or Coop or Kaiya 10 feet away from the basket and in transition. We're going to see the same type ability in a lot of others....probably early like we did last season.

No that would be the TRUTH......

Most observers would equate sending an opponent's shot into the fourth row with "guarding" the player.

On the other hand, Tamari is so nice that she would probably decline playing against 99-year-olds, so you're probably right in that respect.
