I think Corps will end up getting the most playing time this year. But Barkley is so good that i think Scroggins should get out of dodge and come to Knoxville:)

Corp is injured so I bet Barkley (if he's all they say he is) will hold that spot for a few years

The same thing could have easily happened had he picked UT or UF.

I was joking hence the wink. Anyways... it's more likely to happen at USC. Especially if Corp has a good season and Crompton has a miserable season. Tennessee isn't likely to get better than one of the lower 4*'s in the next class if Crompton makes the system look like crap.

Scroggins made his choice. Personally, I don't want a QB on the team if UT was his second choice, or his "escape plan". I want a player who wants to come here and win. Big.

If you look at recent history of QB's who changed schools, for whatever reason, the results are not all that impressive.

Let Scroggins stay at USC and sharpen his clipboard skills. Let's go find a kid who looks at UT, visits UT, and decides THIS is where he wants to play his college football. If it takes another year, then so be it. Better that, than wasting a scholarship on a player who, by his own actions and choices, decided that "UT was not the best choice for him"...and then (maybe) changed his mind.

We might can take that chance in five years, but for now, every scholarship is important, and every offer must be made with a critical mind. Scroggins made his choice, and it's time to move on.

Go Vols.

Just for everyone who thinks he'll be riding the pine, think about it this way.
If Barkley starts this year, he'll be a Junior in the 2011 season (as a 3 year starter).
Scroggins would be going in as a Freshman in 2010, and if Barkley is successful as a Freshman, then Scroggins would certainly redshirt his Freshman year.
In 2011, Barkley will be a Junior and Scroggins will be a Freshman. In the event that Barkley leaves after 3 years (very likely), Scroggins inherits the starting position as a redshirt Sophomore.

Am I the only one around these parts that sees this as a great opportunity for Scroggins?[/QUOTE]

Yes, yes you are.

Because Pistol Pete will bring in someone in the next year or so that is FAR better than Jesse Scroggins.
Scroggins was a good (not great) prospect in a weak QB class.

I bet if Scroggins said today that he changed his mind and now wants to come to UT, you'd welcome him with open arms.

I have high doubts about most of what you just said.

So you don't want Nu'Keese Richardson, since we weren't even on his list? How about Marsalis Teague? If Jeff Luc made a commitment to Florida right now, but 2 months from now decided to decommit and switch to UT, you'd say thanks but no thanks?

And about the being stingy with schollies. You do know that for next year we'll be pretty thin on QBs, right? We need QBs like Nicole Richie needs a cupcake. If you have a chance to get a 4* QB, you take him. When that QB is tailor-made for your system, you break down the door to get him.

I would rather have Bray than Scroggins. When he puts a little weight on he is gonna be a beast. He might even turn out to be the best QB from this year's class.

I agree 100%! If Barkley starts this year it actually hurts any chance we might of had of Scroggins jumping off the USC train! Either way I don't see him switching!

True, but he may want to re-evaluate at some point. If o, our coaches will listen unless they've found someone else. Jesse needs to look upstate at Nunes who appears to be headed toward career backup at Stanford (another freshman has won that qb job).

im new to volnation but yesterday on 104.5 the zone they were saying scroggins may pull out of usc because matt barkely is to good and he will never play and were saying ut could be his choice

I'm not going to hold my breath, but I'm not going to give up on Scroggins until signing day either. Is he really going to USC if Barkley throws for 20 TD's this year? Scroggins could be sitting on the bench 3 years. That would be enough to change my mind.

If Barkley throws for 20 TDs this year, he'll be gone after his Junior year, and Scroggins would assume the starting role as a RS Sophomore...
For someone who's OK with competition and doesn't necessarily want to start immediately, that sounds pretty good for him.

So you are upset that Stanford's 3rd string QB isn't on the Vols roster? That's sad.

FAIL.....He has a thread already, but welcome to the board. Go to the recruiting thread and scroll or do a search for Jesse Scroggins.

This post FAIL's 100x times more that the thread starters. He explained he was new...get a life...

Throwing a big FAIL on a new poster is about as lame as it gets...

Nice work...

A scholarship at a major university is a great opportunity. However, some opportunities are greater than others. If he really wanted to be a player of some significance, he had a much greater opportunity with the Vols.... You would think anyone actually espousing to be a football player would want to be in the game. I can't imagine anyone with the really competitive juices needed for major college footbal being happy with the propect of waiting around for 2/3 years as a 3rd or 4th string understudy. Maybe his demeaner is such that he will be satisfied saying that he is nothing more than a member of the practice team rather than being able to say that he is actually a player and contributor.

I suppose some individuals can be happy just being part-time blocking dummies or journeyman taxi squad players in between lengthy sessions loungiing around with the pine squats.

Scroggins doesn't need to worry about Matt Barkley. If he thought he was ever going to beat him out then he just doesn't have any sense at all.

What he needs to worry about is USC simply recruiting over him in the next few recruiting classes, something that I fully expect they will do.

Look at Mitch Mustain, he was a 5* out of high school, now he will never play a meaningful down in his entire career. Scroggins is a 4* in a bad QB class.

I think it is pretty evident he is going to have a tough time ever getting on the field at USC.

I would rather have a qb that has a moldable, teachable skill set combined with a heart that can bleed orange than a 5* that flip flops his decisions off the field (hate to think what that could translate into on the field), thinks he knows it all, and doesn't get fired up to put on the orange and white.
That being said, I don't know scroggins and maybe he (and his family) really think this is his best opportunity...good on'em and good luck (unless they line up opposite us). I know we have turned some recruits to the orange side, but I really can't think of too many reasons (with the exception of the unproven streak-yes, that's a hefty one) that doesn't look good to a recruit.
