I have a friend who's father was a star at LSU and according to him, it's been done for 2-3 weeks now. Jimbo as good as gone. I'll text him for the amount but it's a crazy number.

It's 44 million over 6 years. Wow.

That's a bit extreme.

I don't think any coach in college football is worth $10 mil a year. Saban included.

Well, market determines it and Saban only makes $8m right? So $10m would def be a stretch for anynody, including saban

I wouldn't leave FSU for LSU. Heck I wouldn't leave FSU for any place, except Tennessee of course. FSU has been one of the most winningest programs the last 40 years. Bowden built a powerhouse and Fisher has inherited it and done a great job as well. He has become the face of that program, it's been his home for years, his kids are in school there, the facilities are just as nice as LSU, if not better, and I know money won't be an issue.

However, as a coach he may strive to accept new challenges and winning in the SEC is a different breed than winning in the ACC. The competition is not the same week in week out. But why would you want to come compete with Saban? Lol

Interesting. Not saying you are wrong, just a difference of opinion. I'd take the bayou over anything in Florida. But I carry some baggage.

of all time! Yea, he built a powerhouse--by joining the weak ACC and coasting into national playoff contention every year. The ACC was full of creampuffs when FSU joined. Bowden was immensely overrated as a coach.

Louisiana is a dump--poor and polluted, and even those who aren't poor are rednecks.

I definitely do not mean anything about which place is nicer to live overall, I just meant why leave after becoming the face of the program, all your roots being there, and having everything you want and need. But we all have seen crazier things.

I am not fond of Baton Rouge. Tallahassee is not bad and the panhandle beaches are excellent.

Parts of BR are very nice but others not so much or even bad, the campus is nice but its been a long time since I have been there. Florida, lived there when I was 2, lived there for about 4 years other than that... its okay, but way overcrowded in the areas that are nice... which makes them not so nice to me. I'm not sure how many countries I have either lived or visited, I would have to say close to 30 or so. Still nothing quite like being on a boat in a nice Louisiana bayou as the sun is going down with a cold one in hand. In NC now, its nice, generally, plenty of trailers... plenty of good areas as well... but just like everywhere else some good, some bad.

Speaking of insane numbers- below is from the Saban to Texas thread:

Just remember its about the kids and the school. :) (Not saying I believe this $20m figure, but its crazy that people are even speaking of these numbers for coaches especially at schools) It was getting very hard to support sports (and college sports) even a few years ago.... now its just stupid to support this stuff on any level.

Agreed. Tuition at UT has increased 500% over the past 20 years. Regular students/parents paying for their education are getting screwed royally.

I blame the lottery money for artificially driving up the price.

Don't forget about how much an 18 y/o with no credit can borrow each year for school.

Yea, there are a variety of reasons why the give a dam about certain aspects of our society are broken or becoming so including colleges and sports in general. Its crazy how many people I know that are just quitting a good portion of traditional society functions. (hopefully not too far off subject)

As far as what I have been told as to LSU's job search, Jimbo has a big offer... LSU is not waiting on him and Herman has papers as well. Jimbo was always a good fit but imo I think college sports has gone off the deep end... you either want to coach there or you don't. Herman would be great as well for the right price, if not I say keep Coach O.... maybe college sports have gotten ahead of themselves and maybe LSU should just return to the basics.

Not so fast....

Chip Brown of Texas is reporting that Herman is nearing a deal with LSU.
