JJJ Question

He's scared to shoot for some reason. Unless he's wide-open, which he doesn't work hard to do, then he is hoping for a penetrator to kick back out to him. Outside of that, he's am offensive liability with his current mindset. I never imagined I'd say that.
Yeah, and it’s bizarre, because in what limited tape there is from his Auburn days, he doesn’t look hesitant to shoot with a hand in his face at all. Some will say that’s a result of the two coaches differing approaches to motivation, but I’d guess it has to do with the fact that most of those auburn games were low stakes games against poor opponents, and also maybe that he ran point a bit there and maybe he’s more comfortable with the ball in his hands initiating the play. Like you said, he clearly hasn’t mastered off ball movement yet (or doesn’t care to move of the ball). But that’s a pickle since our starting PG spot seems to be locked down for the next four years

Ironically, part of the alleged reason for transferring is that he didn't want to run point like Pearl had him doing, though it seems he was much more comfortable doing so, at Auburn.

Didn’t know that. Well then he really should be motivated to being active getting open, running of screens, etc. Don’t know what’s going on then. Will need him to step up whenever Scov leaves, I like the young wings but don’t think any project to be knockdown shooters

I'd believe that except for Vescovi. I have a hard time believing JJJ has ever been a better shooter than Santi.
Agree. Santi is one of the best in game 3 shooter in the country. I’m just saying the coaches noted JJJ having the best 3, noted his practice habits and believe in him shooting it. People say he’s supposed to drive every time (not you) don’t understand the game.

His career to date, yes. Apple stock also traded at $12 for a couple of years. My point is that trends exist, and shooters can improve from good to great. I’m using Admiral as an example because he went from 30-42% from 3 over his career, and from 39 to 42 in his final year. The difference was a thousand shots a day. That’s the program Barnes put JJJ on this Summer. Feel free to decide how many threes you think he should take. I’m just saying I’ll leave that call to the experts.
I agree. Even an in game trend matters. If he makes a couple in a row then maybe he looks for the shot. His mentality needs to be driving and mid-range going in. That's his strength.

His strength? Can’t say he’s particularly strong driving to the hoop or shooting the midrange shot either. He’s strong on D and rebounding. He’s not strong at any of the aspects of offense although his free throws have been solid of late.

He isn't what I call strong at it either but he is better at that than trying to be a spot up shooter and if his mentality changed it would make a difference.

But he is not shooting any better this year compared to last year. Hopefully he gets hot again like he was a few games ago to finish out the season. If he jumps up to a 40% 3pt shooter next year we will be really really good. Even Vescovi is not shooting that high of a percentage.
Vescovi shooting 38.5% from the 3 for the season. 43% from 3 in the SEC.

Dibonghit? (sp) …stand by. He will knock it down.

Yeah I almost said “except for maybe Q” (I’m just gonna go with Q), but I haven’t really seen enough of him to know. I’m not one to watch a lot of high school tape

It’s a hard name, but split it into 3 and it’s easier.
Di bound je. Or just say QD. ORN (or ON) is a lot easier than Nkamhoua. And autocorrect still changes Fulkerson to Fullerton 6 years later.

Dibonghit is what we can call Dog.
Well, I took a mini-sabbatical, after losing it Saturday. I come back and the first post I see is TGO's. It makes me smile, I needed that

Not an expert but Vols won’t go far in the tourney unless JJJ can be a consistent shooter for more than three consecutive games.

Yeah, my take on Diboundje is that he is incredibly gifted athletically, but that his shooting might be questionable. Somewhere along the recruiting of QD, I thought I remembered that he was similar to Pons athletically, but was a shooter. Any knowledge as to what we’re looking at with him as far as strengths and weaknesses?

He’s a freak athlete, but played guard at 6 6” in HS. He shot 42% from 3. He dribbles too much and too high, but can be a great addition. He was a drive first guy in HS. Not sure how we’ll use him.
