it's amazing that every report about rising jobless claim is that it's 'unexpected.'

really, after months of constant rise in unemployment they are still suprised. what fools.

Where's Smokin' Joe Biden and his recovery summer? With the election coming up maybe ACORN is hiring.

I wish I could say I feel like the bottom is in sight, but I really feel like the economy has wounds that are just not being dressed and will continue to bleed.

Be careful what you think. They may tax it.

Until the current administration stops extending unemployment nothing is really going to change. We live in an entitlement society and as long as people can collect unemployment and still pay their bills why work? Unemployment in itself creates apathy. If it quits being extended I guarantee the unemployment numbers start to drop.

biggest problem right now is that the state and local budget deficits are forcing a lot of gov't employees to get fired.

Not everyone who is unemployed is "lazy." It's tough out there.

there are a lot of them out there though. Anyone who reaches the 99wk limit is either setting their sights too high or just not trying

it is tough, but he is absolutely right that unemployment insurance encourages unemployment in that it allows people to wait for that perfect job instead of taking a pay cut and moving industries. personally i don't know anyone who has been unemployed over a couple of months that doesn't ahve some sort of issue (either being lazy, being an ahole, or constantly getting fired at whatever job they have).

I didn't say everyone is lazy. However most are apathetic and quit looking after short time because they will not swallow their pride in these "tough" times and take whatever they can get.

I know an individual that does not want to get hired because it would not be as good as his current situation which consists of collecting an unemployment check along with getting paid cash for a regular cleaning gig he has. I am sure there are tons of his type out there.

I know to the individuals involved this is traumatic... but to the economy it is healthy for gov't to be "right sized". Private companies have to do this to maintain efficiency and cost effectiveness. Gov't should not be immune. Now if we could only do the same thing with the Federal Gov't.

If a lawyer, accountant, etc. took a job at Walmart just to get off unemployment, I would have his/her head examined. Even if they did, they would probaably lose their house to foreclosure anyway.

Then you must live in Camelot. Congrats...
