Now Obama's strategy is to blame Congress. He's whining about a lack of a new jobs bill. Ummm....Barry? The party in control of Congress is the same as yours. And one other thing? You are the leader of that party. Where's the disconnect?

Why should he?

You probably make too much money anyway, and keep your thermostat set on 72. Face it. You are the enemy,

I know an individual that does not want to get hired because it would not be as good as his current situation which consists of collecting an unemployment check along with getting paid cash for a regular cleaning gig he has. I am sure there are tons of his type out there.

my sister in law got laid off right before she had her first kid. she's gotten almost a year of unemployment despite zero desire to find another job and to be a stay at home mom. i think they need to reinstate you having to actually go to an office to pick up your check and to interview with someone telling them what jobs you are going after.

Do they not do that? I know here in GA you are supposed to periodically show where you've applied and what the result was. It's not exactly fool proof and difficult but it does require a periodic visit. I know it is required to have a checking account for direct deposit purposes as well.

in California you simply return a form where it asks if you are looking for work and what jobs you have applied to. they don't check to see if you actually applied to them.

Probably has no affect on the states budget problems...

because i have marketable skills

I worked with some out placement experts about 20 years ago, they told me that on average it takes about 1 month to find a job for every 10,000 you make in annual base salary. For instance, a guy making $30,000/year can expect a 3 month search. I found this to be pretty accurate with the people I know working in the oil biz.

I would guess that only applies to someone seeking the same salary and not willing to just take any job to support themselves. I can assure you if would not take me that long to have another paycheck in my hand

so a guy making $240K takes 2 years to find a new job? why in the world would it take you 3 months to find a job that pays $30k a year? hell there are plenty of places you can drive a bus and make $30k a year.

You don't help yourself by taking anything. It's like marrying the first woman you date after a divorce.:good!:

Remember, I said this was twenty years ago, I am sure that number has gone up.

no it's not at all like that. I prefer to work to feed my family and some prefer I provide the money so they can do it.

heck my company has gotten rid of 3 CEO's in the last couple years and they all found instant employment. I guess they really blow the curve though

Given a choice of looking for a job to support my family in the way they are use to, or taking a Walmart job is not even a question for me. If I had to live off the government for awhile to obtain the former...I know what I would do.

But hey to each is own.
