This is a bit forward thinking on Bowl Day, but

If Will Levis' physical attributes and football abilities make him a top NFL Draft prospect,
shouldn't Joe Milton be projected as a top Draft prospect next season, given the same metrics that elevate Levis' draft stock?

Milton has glaring weaknesses to overcome, but they are no worse than Levis' negatives, IMO.
Milton's strengths are comparable to Levis'.
What do you think?

I agree. I mean, we've seen Milton make some bad decisions and bad throws, but his stats are better than Levis's (with less of a sample here, given)... AND he's a much, much better athlete. Don't know if that'll translate into draft impact, but Levis was average if there ever was average. I can't understand all the leg humping.

Levis' stats show he was a running QB, until this season due to less pass protection.
2019 216yds 4.2avg at Penn State
2020 260yds 3.2 avg at Penn State
2021 376yds 3.5avg at UK
2022 -107yds -1.5avg

Milton has 181 yds in 2021 and 2022 combined with a 5.5avg. His avg is 10.3 yd/carry this season.

If Milton puts up Hooker numbers or anything close he may be the number one pick because of his upside given his size and arm
To place himself on Draft boards, he would need to be above avg. That is what I would say about Levis this season. He is above avg.
Both next season and tonight, I feel Milton's success will correspond with his completion percentage on passes 15+ yds.

I honestly don't understand why Milton is considered a lesser prospect than Levis. They both have significant weaknesses, but Milton's strengths are better than Levis' and his ceiling is much higher.

I don't think Levis should be a 1st round pick and I wouldn't draft Milton there either (yet), but I'd be more interested in Milton as an NFL prospect than Levis.

I also admit I don't know jacks#$% and could be 100% wrong, but that's my impression from watching both of them.

I think Levis' draft projections are ridiculous. And the same can be said for Anthony Richardson.

Might be intangibles? You can't succeed at QB on arm strength alone. You have to be able to manage the game and most importantly, not let the moment get too big for you. I've always wondered if Milton might get too amped up when the game starts and that leads to all the over throws? Everyone says he looks like a million bucks in practice and so did JG, but when the lights come on, something happens upstairs. Hooker seemed to have that ability to remain cool no matter the circumstances. Long winded way of saying you gotta have the complete package. Some guys do and others not so much.

As tough as the SEC is, the NFL is tougher. The play is faster, the windows are tighter and the defenders are better. I see a post UT career for him much like that of JG. I'm sure an NFL team will give him a look, but at some point water finds it's own level and Milton will, too. Hope he's the next Tom Brady, but I'm not willing to put money on it.

Think it is a good comparison. Both Milton and Levis did a pretty good job throwing to vols this year. Significant improvement from 2021 though Levis had that great throw to Alontae last year that proved to be the game winner.

The difference to the NFL might be experience.

Levis has started about as many games as Milton has played in. Milton has been around several years but has only started less than 10 times, I think. Levis has 26 starts or so.

All that changes in 2023 but up until now, Levis may be viewed differently because he has been able to become the starter and keep the job.

Too draft prospects earn it by what they achieve on the field. Not for having the potential to achieve something. Milton hasnā€™t achieved anything on the field at this point and has shown a lot of weaknesses. He has the physical tools so hopefully he can overcome the weaknesses in his game to be a top draft prospect.
