Joe Milton compared to Will Levis

Not even the most diehard Joe Milton critic can deny how much he’s progressed over the last 2 years. He went from running out of bounds to end the Ole Miss game last year to being the MVP of a new years six bowl.

Too draft prospects earn it by what they achieve on the field. Not for having the potential to achieve something. Milton hasn’t achieved anything on the field at this point and has shown a lot of weaknesses. He has the physical tools so hopefully he can overcome the weaknesses in his game to be a top draft prospect.
Matt Cassel threw 33 passes in college and he got drafted.

Heupel + Joe for an entire off-season has the makings of something very, very special. It's like giving a Nascar driver the keys to a McLaren on the Nurburgring.

Going purely by physical attributes, Milton should be the # 1 overall pick. I wouldn’t be surprised if his arm strength exceeds JaMarcus Russell’s.

Levis really hasn't shown anything other than the type of frame and build they want in a NFL QB. Milton , if he could get better at his decision making is probably a better prospect.

Is this serious? All prospects are drafted on potential.

We can argue whether or not scouts place more value on performance (regardless of competition levels) or tools / upside. But either way, future potential is the only real question.

They’re drafted for their potential to do well in NFL based on what they achieved in college on the field. Are you implying players are top draft prospects having accomplished nothing on the field in college? That’s idiotic

Drafted in 7th round doesn’t really fall into the top draft prospects realm. Rare to have anyone drafted who didn’t perform at a high level on the field in college
Definitely not a top draft pick. I was shocked he was drafted at all but I guess he did well in camps.

This is a bit forward thinking on Bowl Day, but

If Will Levis' physical attributes and football abilities make him a top NFL Draft prospect,
shouldn't Joe Milton be projected as a top Draft prospect next season, given the same metrics that elevate Levis' draft stock?

Milton has glaring weaknesses to overcome, but they are no worse than Levis' negatives, IMO.
Milton's strengths are comparable to Levis'.
What do you think?
Milton is better physically and in every other way than Richardson and Levis... RIGHT NOW.

Levis will be the biggest bust in NFL history. Sorry JaMarcus Russell.
Think that could only happen if he goes #1. That being said, I'd LOVE for him to show out at the combine and have the Texans fall in love with him lol

If Milton puts up Hooker numbers or anything close he may be the number one pick because of his upside given his size and arm
Milton has a lot to play for in 2023. With his physical skills, some NFL teams will drool over him. Usually inaccurate physical specimens don't work in the NFL (see Ja Markus Russell, Akili Smith) but occasionally this kind of guy becomes Jalen Hurts/Josh Allen.

I agree and I have not been a big Joe Milton fan. I will add one caveat...Heupel needs to find a good O coordinator. I don't want him doing all the play calling next year

I neee to see more from hurts before I agree with you. Allen is elite. And I’m hopeful Milton’s accuracy stays like it was last night or better. If so we will have another big season

I agree Hurts isn't Josh Allen but he's still accomplished a great deal. Both Allen and Hurts had reputations for inaccuracy and they've largely improved that part of their game. Tim Tebow and JaMarkus Russell never did

Anybody have any thoughts on Milton’s deflected passes? I counted three. He’s 6’ 5”.

Might be intangibles? You can't succeed at QB on arm strength alone. You have to be able to manage the game and most importantly, not let the moment get too big for you. I've always wondered if Milton might get too amped up when the game starts and that leads to all the over throws? Everyone says he looks like a million bucks in practice and so did JG, but when the lights come on, something happens upstairs. Hooker seemed to have that ability to remain cool no matter the circumstances. Long winded way of saying you gotta have the complete package. Some guys do and others not so much.
Milton is so much better than Guarantano it’s not even funny. Milton hasn’t thrown an interception his entire Tennessee career,it wasn’t out of the ordinary for Guarantano to throw 3 in a half, and to throw more pick 6s than tds in a game. I feel a lot of fans project Guarantano’s inadequacies onto Milton, and that’s just not fair. Milton’s only flaw has been over throwing deep balls, and from the looks of last night that has been fixed. I look for Milton to have an all sec type year next season and to be a 1st round pick in the draft.
