Joel Klatt brings the truth

I don't feel duped. I'm much more disappointed than anything. Disappointed in the mental effort and toughness of this team in the face of adversity. Disappointed in the apparent lack of preparation.

When asked about discipline after the game Saturday, Aaron Beasley looked at the floor, stumbled around searching for words, and eventually said "No, I'm not surprised" about the lack of discipline on the field, based on what he had seen during training camp.

This team has plenty of talent that aren't living up to their potential. We don't need Joe to be Hendon. We just need Joe to take the top off the defense after our OL and Rbs establish the run. Suck'em in and then throw over the top. We know he can do that. We have seen him do it. We don't need Crawford or Mincey to be Darnell. What we need is this OL work as a unit, communicate, execute the play, and run the dang ball. We know they're capable, but they can't average 6 penalties a game and get into rhythm. They can run the ball when they work together, but they have been inconsistent at best. His offense relies on the running game to get the one on ones in the backend.

That's the most disappointing part. I really thought after last season this team would know what it takes and be more mentally prepared than they are. I don't know if its confidence or just not taking their job seriously or both, but it's holding them back.
Amen

We didn’t get duped. But he’s right in that we had some very special players and it is tough to replace them. Ultimately, the wide receiver group is mainly intact. The big change, of course being squirrel white taking over for Hyatt.

Personally, I just believe it all comes down to QB. When you have amazing QB play… Your entire all fence looks amazing. We don’t have a great quarterback play, of course, regardless of what Hazle wants us to believe.

So my thought process all along has been why in the hell are we not making an effort to get our future quarterback experience? Just makes no freaking sense.

It's not Golesh's system. It's the system that Heupel has been running since he was the OC at Utah State in 2015. Golesh wasn't even with Heupel until his 2nd season at Central Florida and it's unclear how much play-calling responsibility Golesh ever actually had.

This guy doesn't really say much except that Hooker isn't as good as Milton (duh) and Hyatt and Tillman haven't been replaced by quality WR's ... and our offensive line is not as good. While all true, it ignores the fact that we have a 5 star QB waiting in the wings (Iamaleava), and a 5 star WR committed (Mike Matthews).

I don't believe that Tennessee fans thought we had elevated to the point of being a program which reloads. We lost too much to attrition during the coaching change to have the kind of depth you need to lose quality talent without skipping a beat. The real test for Heupel will come with how the offense looks with players that he has signed (in other words, Iamaleava). Just like Tennessee fans, this guy is going overboard way too soon.
Golesh was a superb gameplanner. No one worked Alabama over like he did.

Figured out? Anybody can stop anybody if you can’t block with a +1 or even +2-3 advantage in the box. That’s elementary. And having a QB who can actually create with his legs. That’s the biggest element we are missing in this year’s offense. Nobody has “completely figured out” Heupel’s offense. That’s crap.
FL's d-coordinator clearly figured it out.

I agree with all your points. The media doesn’t care what you think of them and half of the people listening (or reading) like what they’re saying so they won’t say anything. These guys are simply making a living talking about this stuff and a TON of what they say never was true and never will be true. Again…they don’t care what 50% of the people think cause they’re just trying to put pizza on the table for their families. I’m like you…simply AMAZED at how many fans read this FLUFF (that’s what the media calls it too. My wife was a print journalist for 40+ years and they ALL write FLUFF from time to time to fill the column) and stake their eternal destiny on it😂. It’s like most political advertising…not much sustenance and very little truth… just FLUFF and simple minds will devour it.

No, screw that noise. Duped? Pot. Kettle. REALLY BLACK. The sports media are the biggest ones who ran their mouths last year about how Tennessee was "back." And Joel Klatt was one of them. They're the ones who spent the entire season talking up Tennessee, or Milton, or the system, with their "expert opinions." Oh so sorry it's not amazing like last year, I guess Tennessee just totally sucks. Better toss them back in the dumpster. "Duped." What a load of hyperbolic crap.

And also, just real big fat tip of the sarcastic hat to Mr. Klatt for managing to work more praise for Nick Saban into his snide commentary about Tennessee. Of course. Never fails.

I know one thing - if Tennessee does work out its problems, I don't want hear any effusive fake praise from Klatt or any of the other internet sports media monkeys. I don't want to hear a word of it. They better keep right on walking.

the media loves hyping teams and the same media bashes them for being too hyped. the sooner people realize that espn, foxsport do all of this for viewership, the sooner they should stop watching these national media people

We beat ourselves in many way on both OLine and DLine.
We were jumping on a silent count.
Bush League.
You don't score when the line is jumping and flinching.

And when we didn't jump, they got held a lot. The defense tackled like it was 2016.
FYP

We have been reloading the past 15 years. Do think CJH is finally making it happen. 2 steps forward, 1 step back. Florida loss is not as bad as the Carolina loss last year. Both are embarrassing and sure outside haters gloated on each. Just finish strong and pull a rabbit out of the hat. Love to see us disrupt UGA season when they come to Neyland. I plan on being there.

A “Gimmick” offense is a non-conventional, uncommon style that goes against current football orthodoxy. Some other offenses that were considered gimmicky:

Bill Walsh’s West Coast Offense
Mouse Davis Run n shoot
Steve Spurrier’s Fun N Gun
Joe Tiller’s Basketball on Grass
Hal Mumme and Mike Leach’s Air Raid
Rich Rod’s Spread Option
Urban Meyer’s Spread Offense
Art Briles Baylor Veer and Shoot

So it Seems like Heupel is in good company.
Yah, agreed.

And not only that, but "gimmicks" (changes) are how the game evolves.

Football is no longer similar to rugby. We have innovative coaches to thank for that. Josh is truly one in a long line of creative minds to make the sport different, and usually better, more exciting, more interesting, faster paced, more varied, more...intellectual.

Who'da thunk we'd use 'intellectual' and 'football' together? Heh.

Go Vols!

The last thing I want to do when my team is playing poorly is turn on or read content from the national sports media. They know we have a passionate fanbase so they pounce whenever the opportunity presents itself, which unfortunately has been a lot over the past 10-15 years.

Exactly. Each team needs to maximize their potential. I think it’s in them, we will see.

You just don't replace 6 starters on the offense and dont take a step back; we dont have the depth to do that all 6 are on NFL rosters.

Tillman was hurt most of the year. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Hyatt’s success was mostly due to the system, play calling, and having an accurate qb. There’s ways to work around a sketchy O-line but there’s no way to work around a sketchy qb unless he hands the ball off and throws horizontally.

This is nowhere near the level of football we saw last year. It wasn’t just UF - AP was a terrible showing. I hope it doesn’t happen, but i see a 95% chance Spencer Rattler runs a clinic on us. At which point, we start the slide to 6-6. If you watch our line play and D and watch the Pruitt teams, they have much more in common than last year’s team. We failed in the portal, and it bit us in the @ss.
