I have no link but I was watching ESPNEWS a little over an hour a go and they were talking about the Cal/Tennessee game and they said that Tedford had announced that Ayoob would be starting. If you know anything about their QB's you know this guy was horrible last year. Every Cal fan I have talked to his dumbfounded by this move. Longshore is clearly the better QB but they said his back was acting up on him. Hopefully this can give us an edge in the game. I'll try to find a link ASAP

ah, who knows...i've seen qb's in the past come of the bench and look like world beaters...Jay Barker, Danny Weurfel, Matt Mock etc, etc, etc....

but at the same time, i've also seen the likes of JTIII and Marcus Outzen....

So let's hope for the latter and not the former...k? Go Vols.

They're now in the same boat as us. We both have a QB who stank it up last year trying to make amends. Only theirs may have been worse.

As bad as things were for UT last year, I think if the two teams had switched schedules Cal would have been worse than 5-6 and UT would have been no worse that 8-4.

Wow, this is surprising. Longshore's back must be worse than originally reported. I'm far more confident now. However, if they split time, I don't think it would be long before Longshore got the nod.

Bill King said to not think Ayoob is a dropoff from Longshore. Ayoob didnt have great numbers but he didnt have Erik Ainge numbers. He completed 49% of his passes for 1707 yards 15 TD and 14 INT. He also said that Ayoob might have been named the starter because Ayoob has grasped the offense better than Longshore.

Ayoob stinks. He stinks like EA did in 2005. The fact that ANYONE, including YOU or ME, could somehow complete 1 of 10 passes against Sac State, says something about Ayoob's play last season.

He could have improved tremendously, though.

There is a heated debate on a Cal board that this in fact is not 100% true, at least not as of yet. Some of them are saying that the question asked by the reporter was "Now that Joe Ayoob has been named starter, blah blah blah?" And Marshawn Lynch just responded to the question.

Jeff Tedford, as of this typing, hasn't made an official announcement.

I'm just glad we're talking about someone else's QB controversy.

ViA, What was that best victory for Cal again?

I think Ayoob had been benched by then, right?

His replacement, Levy, is suspended I think.

If true, this is the "worst" good news yet. If they win then they beat UT with one hand tied behind their back. If UT wins, they'll claim it was cheapened by them being limited to their 3rd string QB.

OTOH, a win is a win.

Haha! The huge win over 5-6 Stanford.

Ayoob was benched right before the Stanford game. Levy is in school, but I don't think he's eligible.

As you said, I don't care if they had a 3rd stringer in there. A team who beats another team is the better team. None of our QBs were suspended this season. As of now, none of our starting QBs are injured. These kinds of things, though small, are still parts of a team's "talent."

Has anyone verified this report yet?

I've looked around and can't find any kind of validation. It could just be head games.

Basically:

ESPN reports that Marshawn Lynch was their source.

Some Cal insider says it's still a 2 man race

JT says its a gametime decision

Now bears are saying Ayoob is not the starter. Tedford said that the starting QB will be a "game time decision". Pretty good move by him because now you have to practice against both types. I'm thinking he's waiting to see how Longshore does with his injury.

I'm not sure I wouldn't rather have UT's D shooting for a fixed target like Longshore anyway... especially if his back injury is slowing him down even more.

again I'm not saying this is 100% true. A few hours ago I just happened to have the TV on ESPNEWS and they reported it and then they talked to Lynch on the phone he said was talking about Ayoob and how he had confiendence in him. I too have yet to find a story on the net, but that doesn't mean it's not true. Just saying what ESPN reported

The guy's last name spelled backwards is booya. I don't know what this means, but I find it scary.
