Joey Halzle: Are you Listening?

Milton had a guy wide open on his right for an easy first down. The third down call was solid. Milton's execution was not. He also stared down the receiver and didn't look off the safety. Milton is slow in his reads in all phases. Slow to run the ball and slow to come off his primary. It's hard for an offensive coordinator to guarantee that the primary will be open at all times. I was more concerned with his lack of recognition of what SC was doing to slow down the run game. They were run blitzing the interior offensive line nonstop and yet not one pitch out or end around. He's slow to adjust to what the defense is doing. I'll be surprised if future opponents just don't play tight man & LB run blitz us to death on 1st and 2nd down and then run line stunts on 3rd down while dropping into coverage.
I'm pretty sure that Joe is not calling the plays. I'm also pretty sure that degrading our QB for the play call is kinda bush league. And I guess you didn't realize that we were cracking open those run blitzes for 10, 15, 20 yards every about every other play.

I wanted to puke on our second series of the game. We marched 94 beautiful yards on short, quick passes and runs, both up the middle and around the ends. It was a great way for our Offense to start the game - and it was right from last year's script that made us the quickest and most prolific scoring machine in college football.

Our D did a very admirable job in making the cocks punt after only one first down on their first possession. Kudos to them. Then, on the second cocks series, we bent but didn't break as USC kicked a FG.

UT has tremendous momentum at this point. 2 stops by our D and a 94 yard drive from our O.

Joey, it is your JOB to keep this momentum going. Do what we do best, run the ball and quick passes. The formula is tatoed on your forehead for God's sake. Just do it and don't give the cocks the chance to steal our valuable momentum.

But NOOOoooooOOOOoooOooOOOOoooOoOOOOOoooOooooOOOOOOOOooooooooOOOO!!!! You muck it up royally and forget what your #1 job in life is. You drop Milton back on first down and he almost throws a pick six. I watched this series several times this morning and surprised I am not yaking on my keyboard. We started from our 24 yard line and need 10 yards to move the chain. We have 3 of the countries BEST running backs and you call a play to have our QB drop back (and I am a big Joe Milton fan mind you, but we need to move the chains, first and foremost). I don't blame Milton for almost getting picked after running to his left due to pressure but rather, why in heavens name didn't you recall that a few minutes ago, we ran the ball up and down their asses??

Second down is a predictable draw for zero yards. Ho hum, is your name Randy freaking Sanders?? Gee whiz, let's keep the bad guys honest.....

So now you have put your offense in a precarious position of 3rd and long from deep in our own territory on just our SECOND possession. So what play do you call? Joe dropping back. And what does Joe do (kudos to O line for giving him time)? He throws into coverage for an interception. GONE is every ounce of mojo and momentum we had and you personally served it up on a silver platter to the cocks.

Your horrendous play calling did not net us ONE YARD. And just curious, you are the same play caller (to my knowledge), that mucked it up royally in the swamp last week, right?

For the love of God and UT football, please do not forget our team's most successful offensive weapon, and that is moving the chains. Give Joe some time before you have him drop back twice out of 3 downs in the first quarter deep in our own territory. And when you go to bed at night, repeat this: Small, Sampson & Wright. Small, Sampson & Wright....

As for the Defense and Mr. Banks - y'all did GREAT! Was so nice to see us hold on 3rd and 4th downs and to pursue whomever had the ball w tenacity, let alone 6 count' em SACKS!! And who honestly felt that we would hold Rattlersnake to less than 200 yards????

If anyone feels they need to label me as a NegaVol for sharing my opinion on some IMO horrible play calling, that is fine but, I am hoping that this still is a site to come and vent, praise and sometimes, point out the obvious. It was a great victory for the Vols and this morning I am consumed w grief for Bru - as I strongly felt he is/was a no doubt second rounder next year. God be with you Bru - and thank you for being a VFL.

Play calling hasn't been the issue. It's execution. We execute consistently, we're 5-0 right now.

This really can be a legitimate Chicken or the Egg conversation, as we all know that if your playcaller, whomever he is, is putting your team in jeopardy with the wrong calls at the wrong place (which happens all the time), then you are putting additional pressure on your Offense to perform. Our play calling has been off this year and I'd be happy to go game by game and point out the many obvious blunders. Even w Joe at the helm, we still have an explosive Offense, and we almost gave the game away early yesterday. Can't blame the kids for bad play calling. And if Coach Heupel (who I think is great) is the one sending in these plays, then the blame lies with him. Rewatch the second series and you just might will agree with my calling out the play caller for the Vols. (and of course this is just one example of many)

Just because the offense looked good against the cocks for most of the game, we need to look good 110% of the time if we have any chance of whoppin the Dawgs or Elephants.

He's totally going to see this.
I used to think it was venting, but no, many posters here actually believe that players, coaches, Danny White, recruits, and opposing coaches waste time scouring message boards because they care about how mostly middle-aged men feel about them.

A couple of weeks ago there was a poster who tried to convince everyone that opposing coaches are printing our gripes and bringing them on recruiting visits.

Man, it's a crime that you aren't an OC somewhere in the NFL with such knowledge and insight. Can't believe some head coach hasn't snapped you up by now.

110% isn't possible. And we beat Bama last year and we were not 100% perfect. No team ever is. So cool your tits
