John Adams gets on board

It seems like almost every thread is a b!tch and gripe session about somebody.

Some sources are more questionable than others. It could be that the ground swell behind UT are people looking at the way these teams are playing leading up to the game.

Personally I'm confident about UT's chances this weekend. Part of the apprehension from some is the mental hurdles UT normally play with but I'm starting to believe this is not an issue with this team and this weekend will be a good old fashion dogfight.

Do you know his history? Few have done more to undermine UT's image than he has.

Even if it is a "positive" article... I won't click. I do not want to contribute in any way to him getting paid for what he does. There is objective journalism that "bites"... and then there are guys who relish in tearing things and people down. That's his history going all the way back to Fulmer in the early 2000's.
Ummhmm, those of us over 40 hold a grudge, we know 😂

He was one of the first media guys to question whether Fulmer's time was up. This didn't sit well with a large part of the fanbase. He caught crap because he didn't jump up and down and fangirl with every new hire we made. He has been too critical at times for sure, but he's not an employee of the university. His job isn't to pump sunshine and roses. If you want the media to give a coach the "Saban" treatment, then the coach needs to produce "Saban" results first.

bingo.

I remember some ESPN appearance John Adams made which he kicked off by saying "usually you guys only have me on here to make fun of the Vols." Like him or hate him, he doesn't care about either Vol fans or about Tennessee. The Volunteers mean nothing to him. If Tennessee loses to Alabama, he won't miss a wink of sleep over it. Because it's not anything he's invested in. He's just a sports reporter doing his sports reporting job. And you can bet he'd take a hatchet to Tennessee in a heartbeat if he had the story to do so, regardless of time or circumstance.

Oh, he looks down on us, no doubt, he’s trying to change the narrative, but some of us won’t buy what he’s selling

Wasn’t he the mouth piece of Hamilton?
Also when Hamilton came to UT he started with the Academic side and took all the money that was designated for the Sports department and sent it to the Academic side.
Then UT won’t let the prop 48 players into school and that really started Fulmers demise.
I often wonder whom was actually behind all those things happening at once!!

I've listened to Adams on Basilio a bit recently, and the guy is pretty darned knowledgeable, and very pro-Vol. Not sure where the hate is flowing from.
Agreed..John Adams has pretty much called it like it is.
People just like to jump on the dislike bandwagon.
I imagine most have never read one of his articles or listened with an open mind.

Yet another journalist who made $$ over the years insulting our program, our players, our coaches, and our fan base, now scrambling clumsily to get a place on the Tennessee bandwagon.

He goes onto the stack with Pat Forde:

John Adams had it right from 2008-2020. The vast majority of the Tennessee media praised Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt.

Adams was probably more right than wrong the last 15-20 years, we just didn't like hearing it. Sunshine pumping for the lIkes of Dooley, Butch or Pruitt would be akin to state run media - who wants that?

For those of you who didn’t want to read the article he said the coaching from CJH is the best he’s seen at Tennessee in his 35 years covering the Vols. I think he’s right.

Majors has flashes but not consistency, Fulmer relied on talent and coordinators, Kiffin showed greatness before nuking us into the stone ages, and the rest were below average.
I know Heupel is better than Fulmer!!! Cutcliffe carried Fulmer!!! I think Heupel is our best head coach in the past 50 years. If he gets the defense fixed, we will compete every year!

People have always had an irrational dislike of Adams because he is an actual journalist who told the truth. When Tennessee blew it and lost games they shouldn't, he called it like it was. When Tennessee did something praise-worthy he wrote positive articles. The anger seemed to really build towards him in the 1990s when he would correctly point out that Spurrier was taking Fulmer's lunch money and giving him a swirly seemingly every season.

People, for some reason, want their local newspaper to blindly praise the home team. That's fine when the local team is a small town high school. It's not fine when it's a hundred million dollar a year machine that casts a huge influence over the local culture.

Imagine the credibility of any writer who wrote articles defending Dooley/Butch/Pruitt in the face of obvious, glaring incompetence. That's what fan sites are for, not actual news sources.
