John Chavis, Call your Office.

The Defensive Backs coach should be in big trouble. I can't understand why we can continue to put up with his lack of ability. He evidently does not know much about the defensive secondary and he really does not have a clue as to how too tackle. I sorry but I blame this loss on the last minute of the game. We decided to crawl back into our shell and let our very talented but terribly undercoached secondary run around like chickens with their heads chopped off and rush four so that Russell can pick us apart.

I hate to critical but defensive coaches, shame on you:furious3: .

Sorry buddy but you should not look at the secondary coach, more so our D - line coach. The defensive line is where we were beaten at once again ! Whenever your secondary has to come up and make as many tackles as ours do, then the blame is on thew d - line. Our cb. and safeties are back there for coverage, there main job is not to come up and tackle. That is what our D - line and LBs are for 4 Dl and 3 LB which is 7 out of 11 players are their to stop the run. If any coach is to be targeted, it should be out d - line and o - line coaches.

Once again, we have one of the best D-Line coaches in the nation. His players are weak. He has a defensive end playing tackle. He doesn't have a run stopper, and that's why we can't stop the run.

i think he is holding himself accountable

Chavis admitted that he wasn't expecting the 260-pound Russell to hurt the Vols as much as he did running the ball. He finished with a career-high 71 rushing yards.

"We had guys rushing the passer, and then we weren't able to run him down," Chavis said. "You make decisions and live with them, and some of mine weren't the best (Saturday)."

You know, you bring up a GOOD POINT. Could it be that Chavis is not a GREAT Defensive Coordinator?? Instead he has lived off of talent all this time??? Well he is a GOOD Coordinator, but his players make him look good.

Coach Cut DEMANDS perfection and you can see the improvement in the Offense this year.

I think it might be time to pair Fulmer and Coach Cut with someone new and that might bring us a D that is more aggressive.

Yes we lost 6 of 7 up front, but that's no excuse for not performing.
I know Larry Slade has lived off of good players:thumbsup:

Yeah and so did Randy Sanders and you see where mediocraty got him after awhile. You can only live off of talent so long, and I have come to the conclusion that we are SOFT at LB and in the Secondary. Our best depth is a D-Line.

I have now seen and heard everything! :drive2:

The Vols lost six of their starting seven from last year then they lose haralson this year.

Yes the defense left a lot to be desired.

People forgot pretty quick that UT finished with the no.2 rushing defense in college football last year.

I didn't read all 11 pages of this post but i would like to
state that chavis is a great coach he is doing a great
job with what he has to work with this year. we lost
that game on the fake punt.

...and no running game to keep the DBs honest and Wr's that had brick hands for most of the night.

When Matt McGlothin sp. is a starter, that tells me all I need to know. Who on the D-Line draws any kind of double team?

Myers-White, Elix Wilson, and Rico McCoy are all suitable back-ups. UT's premier tackle is naturally a dadgum defensive end. Mapu has not gotten up to strength, and Wes Brown may be good one day, but he has the velcro chest. This defensive line is not very talented nor is it very deep.

The secondary on this team is being hung out to dry because their is no such thing as pressure with a four man rush. The secondary kept this team in the ballgame with turnovers. I look at that d line and see a giant hole in the bucket right now.

Man that is dead on. Everytime I see this guy on the field, it screams how untalented we are at this position. Opposing offensive lineman salivate when they see him lined up across from them.
