John Chavis, Call your Office.

We throw to the sideline WAAAAAAAY to much.
yeah the reciever may break a tackle but big deal how many times is that going to happen say maybe 1 out of 4 or 5 times. Our chances are best when we throw down the field. The tight end you speak of is huge!! he would be perfect going over the middle.
W/out a running game we use the short sideline passes to set up other things but i hate it its only a matter of time before those routes are jumped and its pick6 city. just my opinion

some of the times our drives got stopped short were beceause our WR's dropped some very very catchable balls. I know Crompton threw a few that were off, but some should have been caught, Ainge should have had atleast 3 completions before he was lifted

Russell got 71 yards rushing because he had to escape the pass rush. We sent the LBs because we didn't have enough pass rush. They hit plays over the middle because the LBs have to rush. The DBs have to help stop the run but still cover the Receivers down field. I hope this is as confusing as listening to y'all try to identify what is wrong with the Defense.

Really the only thing that is "wrong" with the defense is depth on the d-line and the need for more physical play from our Db's.

Unfortunately the DBs are on on the small side , Morley is tall but still not very big. I was surprised that Stewart didn't get his 2-3 Pass Interference Calls that he normally has.:whatever:

wow...how quickly you people forget about the deffense that carried the team last year.

That is the problem the defense last year left us HUGE holes to fill and it seems that they are still not filled. But keep in mind these are the guys that were the seniors backups last year. i think Karl and Mayo will be great and Fisher and Bolden will be beast's w/ more playing time.

You know, you bring up a GOOD POINT. Could it be that Chavis is not a GREAT Defensive Coordinator?? Instead he has lived off of talent all this time??? Well he is a GOOD Coordinator, but his players make him look good.

Coach Cut DEMANDS perfection and you can see the improvement in the Offense this year.

I think it might be time to pair Fulmer and Coach Cut with someone new and that might bring us a D that is more aggressive.

Yes we lost 6 of 7 up front, but that's no excuse for not performing.

Are you kidding me??? Chavis kept us in this game...look back at our legitimate offensive production tonight...chavis made the 1st half what it was......but we couldn't quite get it done in the 2nd half tonight....

Its a bit early to call for Chavis' job. \QUOTE]

... a bit??? are you guy serious??? with the injuries this D has sustained this year and the gifts this D gave to the offense in the 1st half of this game..a bit early? are you kidding me? Granted...I think the d fell back a bit in the 2nd half...but for you to use the phrase "a bit early" is ridiculous to me

I was defending the guy how about ya read the whole post.:)

I'll be honest i don't like the way Chavis calls the game late in the 4th w/ a lead.I never have it seems he forgets what the word blitz means and our corners play to far off the recievers. I think we can do better than Larry Slade as a DB coach.

This game could have got nasty in the 1st half and it didn't. The reason? The Chief. The confusion and penalties he forced gave JC a chance to win this game....it didn't work out...but I'm not calling for heads

it's way to early to think about canning Chavis.

Chavis just had a wrong year to have a bad defense.

To bad we didn't switch defenses with last years team.

Gosh Dangit, I wish Chavis would quit missing all of those tackles! Get my drift?....I will say he sits back in zone too much after he gets a lead. Not enough pressure on the "Freak of Nature". Hats off to LSU..they made the 3rd and 4th downs when they needed. They were the much more aggresive team tonight on the field AND ON THE SIDELINES!.......However we missed way too many tackles tonight...did you see the way their Dbacks tackled our receivers on the first hit? Those quick outs that got us 10 YAC earlier in the year vs weaker opponents is not working against the stronger teams...Florida,Alabama, SC, LSU. Simply put we were out muscled tonight by a superior team. I called it if you will look at my previous posts. I will say it now...Arkansas 28 Tennessee 25. We can't stop the run...and ARK can run the ball with the best of them. We are in BIG trouble! We could VERY easily be 5-4 right now! We are not as good as our record indicates...we have struggled in ALL of our games except for Georgia and CAL..all of the others have been close until the 4th qtr. We have had some breaks go our way this year thats why we are 7-2. Just my opinion.

Since when does Chavis make tackles....

You guys are bashing a coach whom replaced all 3 starting LBER'S, and had to start an end and a walkon at tackle...

Geez......Chavis did more with much less this year...

Peace Cross

This thread proves once again just how fickle some UT fans are.

Fickle is putting it kindly. I constantly marvel after a loss at the people trying to assign blame to assistant coaches for things that they THINK they understand. Not saying that I am an expert by any means, but a lot of the criticism is obviously purely reactionary.

i totally agree! it was a great game! I am glad it wasn't a blow out!...because LSU's players are HUGE!!! I mean HUGE!!!! i thought we played well considering...

John Tenuda at Ga Tech is overall the best Defensive Coordinator in the country and I for one wouldn't mind seeing him at Tennessee. However, that's not going to happen because he loves Tech and wouldn't leave.

I'm as pissed about last nites game as everyone else but I'm not going to be calling for John's head anytime real soon. The blowen fumble call killed us and I agree the defense missed a ton of tackles but I don't remember seeing Chavis out there missing the tackles?

What part of replacing the entire front 7 from last year dont you understand bud? these guys we have now are the backups to those guys. Chavis has done alot considering the pool he had to draw from but can the guy i think not.
