Here is our DC Jancek's comments about the AU game:
»(On linebackers against Auburn)

“There were no issues in terms of the linebackers finding out who had the ball. They executed. They did their job for the most part. There was a couple times, here and there, we maybe slid a little too far inside. Nothing where you said, `Man that’s awful.’ For the most part, we were on point.

Did I watch a different game?

The DE's contributed to the breakdown. If they had done their job the LB's could have scraped down and taken proper angles. Yes, there was a few missed assignments from the LB's but fundamental breakdown was the ends not setting the edge and pushing the play back up the middle or stringing it down and out giving the LBs time to tackle.

Butch needs to find a better D.C. and dump Mr. Martinez if he wants to call this coaching staff the best in America..

Your thread title was excellent-

Jancek????

Truth is who knows if this guy is any good, so far in the last 6 years we have had 1 good D coordinator here in Wilcox. Why these guys don't go back and see what he did with his minimal talent is beyond me. The year J Wilcox was D Coordinator at UT we had the 28th ranked D in the Country...

Why wouldn't you just man up on the outside and send the rest to the line of scrimmage? I mean, make Marshall beat you with his arm.. I kind of wonder if half these DC's have been hit in the head too much also..

There were several times the safeties came up to get the qb and they missed him or was out of position everytime.

Guys were in position to make tackles. They didn't make tackles.

Anyone know the name of a Auburn receiver? They would have had to make me get familiar with them before that game was over. We made it easy for them..

I was also screaming at the TV- geez put freaking 9 in the box if you have to, Dayum, what a pitiful performance the last 3 games by our D.

Good point. So if the coaches got the players into the correct position and the players didn't tackle, what do we need to do?

1. Recruit better players
2. Try to teach the current players how to tackle until the better players arrive.

This is what Alabama will do when they play them - book it Dano.

In fact, I"ll go one step further....

What every D coordinator should do is watch how Alabama schemed for teams these same D coord are about to play. I realize Bama runs a 3-4 and most everyone else a 4-3, but by dropping your fastest DE, you can somewhat simulate their scheme. I'm not saying do this the whole game, but instead of letting an opposing offense play to their strengths (which is exactly what UT has done these past few games), push them to play with the biggest weakness. We're not good/deep enough apparently to play "strength on strength" with any legitimate top 20 team.

I judge him also on his failure at Georgia with elite talent

He was fired after one year as Co- DC there

That's the problem, he was Co-DC. Seems like it would be more difficult as CO anything. He hasn't impressed me here either but let's give him a little more talent and see what happens.

They did.....

They played a 4-4 defense for almost half the game.
