May not have the talent , not impressed by how he schemes either. Missouri was a pick your poison, so was Bama. Auburn was basically one dimensional. We made them look like a modern day version of 95 Nebraska.. I could have lived with a couple of throw over your head td's..Not sure Marshall could have done that. It would have been nice to see if he could have..

He is a outstanding recruiter and for that fact alone he will get another season. Butch would be crazy to fire any coach at the end of this season and risk having this recruiting class fall apart.

Good point. So if the coaches got the players into the correct position and the players didn't tackle, what do we need to do?

Go back over the fundamentals of tackling in practice until it is pounded into thier brains. If this has no effect, bench starters and find players who are willing to tackle.

When listening to the Auburn game on the radio after Dobb's score a touchdown, the announcers made a big deal about Jones having the offensive line in pads during weekly practice hitting hard after being embarrassed by Mizzou, but no mention was made of making the defense practice hard.

Here is our DC Jancek's comments about the AU game:
»(On linebackers against Auburn)

“There were no issues in terms of the linebackers finding out who had the ball. They executed. They did their job for the most part. There was a couple times, here and there, we maybe slid a little too far inside. Nothing where you said, `Man that’s awful.’ For the most part, we were on point.

Did I watch a different game?

LBs can't do their job if the D-line doesn't do their job. DE's can't set the edges and DTs were getting blown off the ball. When you have Olineman easily getting to the second level to get blocks on the LBs its hard for them to do their jobs

is not getting the job done for whatever reason.

I wonder if in the end, he will cause Jones to lose his job?.

Remember Dooley and Sansuri?.
At that time we could put points on the board but, because our defense was so bad, we kept losing games.

DE's need to do a better job of pre snap reads. I mean why run yourself out of the play every time? This guy wasn't a drop back passer.

In fact, I"ll go one step further....

What every D coordinator should do is watch how Alabama schemed for teams these same D coord are about to play. I realize Bama runs a 3-4 and most everyone else a 4-3, but by dropping your fastest DE, you can somewhat simulate their scheme. I'm not saying do this the whole game, but instead of letting an opposing offense play to their strengths (which is exactly what UT has done these past few games), push them to play with the biggest weakness. We're not good/deep enough apparently to play "strength on strength" with any legitimate top 20 team.

We aren't good enough on any level to force someone to play to their weakness either.

If we were on point, I sure missed the point

This has been a pattern for them all year and the last 3 OC we have played have exposed it. Then once they get into open field the LB's are taking poor angles that gets them into 3rd level of defense.

What I saw on every qb keeper to the outside was the safety bit on the fake to the rb every time. If he stayed outside he would have been in position to make play. Just had to tell safety to stay out till he knew qb didn't have ball. It should have been obvious if I saw it.

Outside looking in I see Butch as a loyal guy to his asstistants. More like Fulmer. Nothing like Dooley. This could be a problem for him later rather than sooner.

I don't think there is much drop off from our 1's to 2's on the edge. If the 1's weren't doing what i wanted then i'd give the 2's their time. I'd find someone that either wasn't a slow learner or someone who listens better..

Jancek is fine for now.

How many of you wanted Monte Kiffin fired when McCluster burned us for 200+ on the ground?

So did AJ, which is why Jancek's comment dumb-founded me. I focused on AJ almost ever play and he bit on that fake virtually EVERY time and took himself out of the play.

I agree that is why I believe it is more of a talent issue right now than a coaching issue. Now if we see these same mistakes next season then we may have a problem.

Some of theses mistakes are fundamentals that should have been instilled in them at the high school level.

Aren't Jancek Martinez and Butch real close to each other? Hopefully that doesn't affect CBJs decision making...

AJ plays hard but in my opinion he would be better as a rush end. He gets himself out of position at LB way to many times.

Until you have the right players to execute the scheme you really can't judge it. We have no pass rushers, subpar DBs, and LB's who can't play in space. If we had any chance on defense it would be to run a zone and you can't stop the spread with the zone. It also would help if Hood would stop getting blown off the ball.

A poster on here Saturday was complaining that we need to switch it up and run a zone against Auburn and I thinking that shows me what they knew.
