People have VASTLY over stated the lack of "speed". What is true is that unfamiliarity or hesitation makes guys "slow". I fail to see how a Fr replacing a Sr is likely to fix that aspect without resulting in ALOT more mistakes.I will not be upset if we see improvement and do not see the same mistakes week after week like we are now. I am also a firm believer that players "playing fast" make up for some of the mistakes we are seeing right now.
Disagree completely. Sapp has played well. Brewer hasn't played horribly.I agree 100% with the d-line statement as being key for next season. I believe Maggitt and Reeves-Maybin will be huge for the defense next year as our WILL and SAM LB play has not been very good this year but some of that is on the d-line.
I think that's a coaching thing again. Randolph was a head hunter before. McNeil's claim to fame as a recruit was that he was a head hunter... and EXTEMELY aggressive player.I think the key for next year is finding 2 safeties who can play and have that killer instinct like we have had in the past.
The secondary gets better with time imo with some quality back up coming from players now in development and maybe some of the Fr.
The big problems right now that seem to constantly blow things up for this D are the play of McCullers, Smith, and Toney. I hate saying that about Toney. He's giving his heart and soul but to me... Jancek should have made developing a replacement for him priority number one a long, long time ago. There are players on the team with more natural talent... and none of them are smart enough to learn the nickel position?
