Im was actually talking about the present with his current history as the Bama coach. He is on his way to "Bear" type status right now. He has more slack at this point than Shula did. Fair or not thats life.

True to all but the early heat lasted one season. If season 2 had been bad I'm not sure there would be a 3rd

Other than just a discussion piece the hypo is really irrelevant. Saban would not be in Dooleys position right now.

Because he's actually shown that he can turn things around. He's built programs everywhere he has been at the college level. NFL doesn't count IMO, the 3 National titles, and possibly 4th, at the college level is enough for him to get more slack.

Dooley on the other hand, hasn't done anything other than be a quality assistant, good recruiter, and clip board holder.

He'd have to go 9-3 and win a bowl game before I would consider "token" and that would be really all I would consider.

Token would probably equal Hart saying he is satisfied with where we are.

Agreed. Especially with how next year is likely to go; Hart would catch hell for any type extension. All moot anyway.

I don't think he's the guy.

The only way a token should be offered is to make it appear CDD has longer than 4 yrs to help recruiting.

Sure. Just trying to show why I and others would cut Saban more slack if he took over the same situation CDD took over and had the same record to this point.

If CDD won 9 games this year, I still wouldn't give him an extension. I wouldn't fire him though ...I would say, good job at getting us moving, but there's still work to be done.

Would hate to see any extension. He hasn't one against a top tier SEC team and I don't see him doing it this year. MS State would be a pleasant surprise.
