I see it as important, but not in the sense that it is a measuring stick. That game will send the team into Bama and USCe with some hope or 0-3 and the conference with a good possiblity of starting 0-5.

2 recruiting classes that were DD recruited, his first year signed was mostly Kiffin recruits

Every coach worth hiring at UT is guaging us on our level of committment to turn things around. Not only does that mean W's it also means support from the AD.

The dumpster fire that DD inherited

Majors started out 21-23-1 his first 4 years of the last rebuild and he was not only a Vol but had won a NC the year prior to coming here. Much harder to rebuild now verses then and the SEC is much tougher now than what it was then. I really don't want to hear it was Majors so he deserved more time, a rebuild is a rebuild and it was easier then than now.

I am no DD supporter or basher, I know fans are upset not winning as I am as well but our recruiting base is much smaller now with our surrounding SEC states programs ranked in the top 10.

Majors to Dooley comparisons are apples and oranges.

Majors was coming off a National Championship. He was a UT legend.

Dooley was a loser coach in the WAC. He is the son of a GA legend.

Oh, I agree with you completely on that point. I just feel looking singularly at the MSU game, a win there should not be equated to a victory over the big boys and have no greater bearing on potential changes.

History means nothing to me.
If you give 3 yrs to turn things around that's all you get. Winning a nc at Pitt is irrelevant to Tn football.
can you tell I wasn't a fan of Majors as a Coach.

I don't view as one either. I think they are a solid team that UT is not gonna walk over, but should be expected to beat.

His point was spot on.

To me we should focus more on what he said about Dooley, not Majors.

Dooley has never proved anything. He sucked in a lower grade conference and he sucks here.

It screams loser no matter how many excuses you make, his name or DD is irrelevant. His first 4 year record is what it is and it was done in a much easier time in the SEC period.

Does Hart give Dooley an extension after this season then, therefore giving a likely lame duck coach the same buyout deal he has now? Does he renegotiate the buyout down? Or does he not give an extension at all, which could be used against us in recruiting?

8-4 gets carefully worded extension that really means he can easily be fired but in the media reports helps recruiting.
