There is only a handful (8-10) posters in this thread who are in support of Gruden. There could be more but perhaps they are not coming in this thread to show support. You Grudenites are under the impression that I come in here to attack but the truth of the matter is since the Grudenites have been so confident in this happening that I have taken it upon myself to reach out to my sources to either confirm or deny of such dealings happening.

Today I will be stopping by one of my customers who is a booster, has a sky box and is a personal friend to Jim Haslam. So go ahead and make your wise ass remarks but I will report back in this thread the good, the bad or the ugly from my meetings with my sources. I also would be willing to bet that I have gone out and spoke to more people with close ties to the university on this matter than most of the Grudenites posting in this thread.

I've called 2 lettermen (not football) and 1 Athletic Department aquaintance this morning to officially express my opinion this morning. I'll be sending an email to Dave Hart as soon as I get back to the office.


It may not have any effect....I'm a nobody and I know it. However, if they don't know our opinion we may not get the change we seek.

I'll be really surprised when they deny any knowledge, because these things always happen publicy and on the record.

There may be 10 people more active in the thread and vocal about Gruden, but the overall attitude that Dooley is NOT the right guy is shared by a lot more. Thats where I am, SURE I would love to have Gruden but as I have said literally Smokey could take off the dog suit and lose to every top 25 opponent and have the worst road SEC record in the conference over 2.4 years for a lot less than $133k per game.

Glad you know people, I do too. I have said NO ONE has mentioned the word Gruden to me, but he will be in the conversation when it truly takes place as will several others. I do know that Dooleys job is very much on the line tomorrow night and if we go in there and get embarrassed the phone will be in use on Monday. The exact quote was " Dooley may be able to cool his seat off a little with a good victory this week, but another road embarrassment will get the chair pulled from underneath him". That was said yesterday, in my office, from someone very much in the thick of the AD, a coach of another sport. I do not claim to be in the know, but anyone claiming there is no way Dooley loses it before the end of NEXT season is definitely not in the know. Of the 5-6 people in and around the AD I talk to at least on a weekly basis no one has this opinion.

What they have told me is very similar to what a few of you guys are reporting on here. Now I haven't read all 1000 pages of this thread, but some of the things I have read after glancing over the last week's worth are matching up exactly with what I have heard from multiple very legitimate sources.

Nobody knows what is going to happen, but I can assure you that the Jon Gruden talk is not a total pipe dream. Gruden is legitimately being talked about, and Gruden is open to listening. Sure, there may be no opening. Sure, Gruden may opt to go in another direction if there were an opening. But I can tell you this-there are at least a few donors who are ready to go all in financially if Gruden showed any interest. There are a few people on this board who seem to know exactly what they are talking about. You guys pretty much already have a grasp on who they are. Listen to them, they're not making things up.

What I would like to add, and the main reason I have joined these boards, is this: I have heard that there is a 50-50 split behind closed doors about Dooley's future. He certainly still has some supporters. A few of those pro-Dooley people said that they don't feel like the fans want a change right now, and that they are ok keeping Dooley (barring a complete collapse). I was told of this exact quote-"I just don't hear the fans as a whole calling for change, so we can probably get another year out of him. He probably won't survive past that, but we can save some money."

While I believe that every coach deserves a chance, I am completely upset at the current situation. They already know Dooley is not the guy. He's simply a stop-gap at this point. Whether or not he gets the axe this year, he won't be around in a couple of years. There is a legitimate chance that the stars could align and Jon Gruden could become a reality this year, but that's a once in a lifetime situation. Waiting another year will not land you Gruden.

The reason I am coming to you is to encourage you guys to keep pressing on. You guys are not crazy at all. Keep spreading this message. The pro-Dooley crowd needs to know that he is done either this year or next. You can support him all you want, but he won't be back in 2014 either way. All Vol fans need to know this.

I've been going to games since the 1980's, and I've given all my support to Coaches Majors, Fulmer, Kiffin, and Dooley. I am not a typical "hater". I am a proud Volunteer who is disappointed to be going through the motions in football with a coach that everyone seems to agree is not the right guy.

Never before have I seen such sensitivity towards the fans in terms of major decision making. They normally couldn't care less, (except for when the fans gave up on Fulmer in '08.) A big public cry for change could legitimately tip this thing our way right now. Waiting another year is incredibly sad to me. This is the time for the change, because this is the only time you will ever see a Super Bowl winning coach who is open to this job. It's now or never. Get loud.

Proud to join the Gruden movement with you guys. Stay strong, friends. Hoping to celebrate with you sometime next month.

He has some UT ties being on the staff years ago, I think he would fit it. I also think that has the personality and attention to detail that we need. This weekend will be a telling tale of how we have come along under the current regime. The talent is better, but we still look slower than our opposition! We still can't catch the ball when it is a do or die situation to extend the game! And the opposing coaches make adjustments and we are done and can't seem to dig out. I know in Georgia game we took it on the chin and scrapped back. But the second half was much different. If we are playing beneath our talent level we look great, but if we are playing in the SEC, which is our conference we just no longer measure up. Getting beat by Kentucky, WOW! That will hurt for a long time. Meaningful wins, Bowl games, The Big Orange being the measuring stick to grade another program against seem to folk lore.

I am a Vol through and through, I remember riding with the family to nuetral site Memphis to watch Tn vs. a Mississippi school, only to come back home sad because either Ole Miss, or the MSU "cowbell" beat us on our on turf. Those were disappointing memories. But, I still got and put on my Larry Seivers, 89 jersey (he was my hero for a long time) and went back to school proudly decked in Orange.

I remember being in the upper 2 in the east and having a shot at the championship and the Sugar Bowl at the time. The last bowl game I went to was the Music
City Bowl mishap........another WOW. I want our program back! Dooley is a great guy, I appreciate his dedication, but turning it around, Hmmmmmm. We are good enough to just get beat. I read that we are the team that is better than our record, our record just isn't very good. That means we are still losing!

Exercise your right to sunshine pump elsewhere, maybe start a true fan thread that would be new!

The true fan argument got stale a long time ago..IMO, we are true fans b/c we will not settle for losing and have high expectations for OUR program.

If we lose to state and with bama and usc in the wings you can rest assure that the powers in the AD will be making phone calls. I do not have faith in Dooley for the long haul. Anybody that honestly looks at the SEC coaching competition cannot say that DD is ever going to be an elite in this conference. Will Gruden be the answer I don't know. The college game in the SEC is a semi pro league definitely and having Gruden should give you a boost in recruiting future vols. I would call Gruden first Bob Stoops second Ducks coach third. If I couldn't get who I wanted I would wait.
