Let me start by saying, I am a supporter of the Vols. Some may think of me as a sunshine pumper or pro-Dooley because I support Dooley and the Vols. I'm not sure that label is fair. That being said, I will support whoever is our head coach. Currently, I support Dooley and hope he succeeds. Dooley has rebuilt our roster and our scholarship numbers are close to 85. We also have NFL talent on the offensive side of the ball (still lacking on defense). Dooley inherited a horrible situation and should be commended for cleaning things up after the Fulmer-Kiffin transition. We are a much better football team now than we were two years ago.

With that being said, Dooley needs to win one of the next three games (if not more). I have talked privately with Montrell, and we are hearing the same thing re: Gruden. Money is not an issue. Gruden is ready to get back into coaching and wants to coach at the collegiate level. The University of Tennessee is a job that not only intrigues him, but it is a job he would take.

I would hope that peoples' thirst for Gruden would not result in them cheering against Dooley and the Vols. If we can go 8-4 or 9-3 this year, we will land an excellent recruiting class and continue to head in the right direction. On the other hand, if we could get Gruden, there may be potential for much more.

My final take, I hope we do not get Gruden because I hope Dooley succeeds this year and in the future at UT. Only time will tell.

Fair and reasonable post.

OCI....despite what some here would believe about me, I actually agree with your premise.
I believe Dooley being wildly succesfull would be the best thing. He has done a fantastic job internally repairing the program, and is a genuinely likeable guy.

I would never cheer for the Vols to lose. My dearest hope is that we win out. My mind cannot discount what my eyes are seeing however. He's in over his head as a game coach.

I appreciate your post, validating what several of us have heard and posted. You are well thought of here, and that only helps our cause.

Doug Dickey was about the Vols and Tennessee!

Not so fast. I remember when Doug Dickey threw the Vols under the bus and left town for a coaching job with the Gators right before we played the Gators in a bowl game. Doug Dickey was all about Doug Dickey. Period. VFL NOT!!

Amen to that.

I liked Dickey as an AD and I liked the direction our fb program went while he was AD but you are correct he threw UT under the bus for the gators. There were many, many older VFLers that were quite po'd when he was hired as AD and I can understand why.

I would take 7-5 and Gruden over 8-4 and Dooley any day, and I have no problem admitting it.

IF Dooley is fired and Gruden takes the job(I don't think he would), y'all don't think he would jump back to the NFL when they come calling in 2 years? In the short term I think recruits would be jumping to play for him. Just not so sure he would be in it for the long haul.

Taking a loss or two more to have a superstar coaching is a fair trade off in my eyes as well.

Oh? An 8/4 Gruden trumps an 8/4 Dooley? How smart would that be considering we would have to empty the coffers to get him? Especially on an untested SEC coach. Don't hand me the BS about a SB ring. Coach Fulmer has a NC ring and that wasn't good enough.

Oci like your posts you bring good info. I hope dooley wins out but I think we probably finish 7-5 are 8-4 at best. Hope I'm wrong and he wins them all.

I think at best with dooley you might get 7 are 8 wins and with Gruden championships. I would take Gruden anyday best thing for Tennessee football.

Dooley having an 8-4 season this year means he didn't win a big time game most likely. If Gruden went 2 plus years with no significant victories I would be critical of him as well so quit making this a personal attack on Dooley. He is a like able coach but this is about results and he hasn't had them so far. So in your logic after winning an NC a coach is allowed to only rest on his past for a decade?
