Did we clear the walls the way a Strong, Gundy, or Fedora would have been perceived? Did we hit it out of the park with a Gruden hire? Not close. Still we made a very productive hire with CBJ.

Butch is a guy who preaches fundamentals. A hit your man and put him on the ground attitude that says "shut up and play some damn ball". This is a guy who has shown flashes of brilliance on his way to a 50-27 record in 6 seasons as a head coach.

His players always seem to rally around him, and from Central Michigan to Cincinnati his players have consistently bought into the system he was installing. Everyone is always on the same page with a Butch Jones coached team, and it shows in the results at the end of the year.

His players always do all the little things you need to do in order to win. Butch knows you have to have a strong supporting cast to go along with your stars, and he's a master at getting players to accept their roles without complaint.

The reason I say this is an "Inside the park home run" is while it may not make the big headlines, it is still a hire that will produce the same results. Don't be surprised if we sneak up on a lot of teams next year. We just may be a sleeper team in the SEC East race in 2013. I can't wait for spring practice to start and see the team back on the field and in action.

it will be intersting to watch unfold. we havent had any leaders on the field because we havent had one on the sidelines. that, im confident will change. no we are not contending for anything in 2013. im resigned to the fact we will lose a bunch of games. i just want to be proud of the team again and not let kickoffs hit the ground for the other team to scoop up.

Its funny how you people sat Strong or Fedora would have been better hires. Have you done any actual research? I'm guessing not because of the 3 Jones has the better wining percentage and hes maintained a better percentage being a HC 2 years longer than Fedora and 3 years longer than Strong. He's also 2-1 going against Strong, while Strong was 2-0 going against Fedora. Fedora and Jones have never coached against each other but by basic laws of reasoning it can me assumed that Jones would beat Fedora since Fedora has lost twice to a coach, Jones has beat twice and only lost too once and that loss came in overtime.

I could understand not being happy with Jones but to say that Strong or Fedora would have been better hires is just ignorant when all the FACTS prove that Jones is the best of those 3.

Since he's our coach, I hope he's got what it takes to get us back to top. I don't care who's right or wrong in arguments over IF he's a homer or a popout. Support Butch and let's pray for the best. One thing for sure is he's an upgrade over Dooley.

This team will take on the personality of their coach.

Florida game was a sellout. People were behind Dooley 100% then. Gameday was there volnation showed the country on live tv we were all in. Guess what it did not change the outcome of the game.

Can't give a conclusive scoring until you see how he recruits in the SEC.

You do know that your Triple candidate, Strong, is 1-2 against your "Popout" candidate.

But then again... Perception trumps FACTS on this site doesn't it...

Fact: Jones took over a 12-1 team.
Fact: They are now 9-3.
Fact: Strong took over a 4-8 team.
Fact: They are now 10-2.

Butch Jones record at Cincinnati:
23 wins in 3 years
4 wins were against FCS teams
10 wins were against FBS teams with a losing record in the regular season
5 wins were against FBS teams that finished 6-6
4 wins against teams that finished with winning seasons

Of those 4 winning teams, 3 were 7-5 in the regular season. Only 2010 Miami (OH) was better at 9-3.

Summary: In 3 years at UC, Butch Jones has won only 1 game against a FBS-level school with fewer than 5 losses in the regular season.

Dooley had been here for 3 years already. What he is saying is that we need to get behind our new coach and generate excitement for a new, fresh start. Show Jones and the players that we are behind them 100%

There is no way anyone can say whether this is a homerun hire or a strike out looking hire. In my opinion this is at best a 50% chance of succeeding hire. Coach Butch Jones first time at the plate will be this February when he signs his first class. Dooley has the basis for a decent class started. We'll see where it goes from here. The current commits are ranked higher than anything Jones has ever assembled before. If he builds on it he will have hit a single at his first at bat. If it falls apart obviously it will be a strike out at his first at bat. No one, not Gruden, not Saban, not either of the Kellys can win without players. If Jones can't recruit he'll be sent packing a rich man in three years. That's why it was crucial to get a well known coach to bring legitimacy to the program in a hurry. We'll pretty much know in February whether Coach Jones will be here beyond his third season. IMO I'm skeptical.

Bear Bryant and Neyland coached with the philosophy that the team that makes the fewest mistakes wins. Be disciplined, execute, never quit and when the other guy Fs up...pounce. Dooley always Fd up, usually multiple times. Too many men on the field, poor time management, giving the OC the go ahead to call a knucklehead play. His coordinators and players lacked discipline and as a result couldn't execute consistently. This Shlt ain't rocket science. Jones is clearly on a higher level motivation wise. They say his players execute detail... We'll see. If his coordinators can teach mistake free football we might end up happy with the guy.
