Jordy to WNBA

On the whole, Jordy was adored and appreciated by just about everyone associated with the program, including fans. But there are always a few bitter, malcontents who can only carp and criticize and who try to poison the discourse at every possible turn.

When I saw her hugging all of the service / workers……. And hearing that this show of affection to them was a ROUTINE EMBRACE!

This told me all I needed to know about Jordan Horston ! It’s what is inside of a person that matters most ….. 🤔. She will be missed 😢

More and more it seems folks want to suppress free speech and the expression of opinions which they disagree with. These people are so arrogant that to them only their own opi ion matters

"Opinions they disagree with." When those opinions are uniformly hostile or dismissive of everything about the Lady Vols program, which, you know, just throwing this out there, but it's title of the damn forum, I can understand how people get there. When 95% of of what these folks say is derisive and insulting, when they make fun of everything good and bad, belittle or make fun of the players, mock their wins, and gloat when they lose, well, you know what? Yeah. I think a lot of people here are gonna pissed off. "I support the Lady Vols!" "The Lady Vols suck, Kellie Harper sucks, this player sucks, that player is bad, the team is trash, the program is garbage." Constantly. EVERY comment sarcastic and dismissive. That crap gets old.

I don't want anyone banned, but the constant firehose of hostility and derision, what is the point? Other than to antagonize, what is the point? Especially when it gets focused on the players, that **** gets old.

Pardon my langauge.

The initial post was strictly about Horston's limitations on the court. There was nothing personal or derogatory about her character. If something that innocuous is going to send you off the deep end, maybe forums like this aren't for you...

Next year’s ceiling is sweet 16 again. Everyone will key in on Rickea. She’ll be our only scorer.
I think you forget about Tamari Key being Doubled and Tripled all season as a sophomore. Even double and triple teamed she averaged 10 and 8 and remember there was no Rae Burrell most of that season. Who is going to guard Tamari if the focal point is Rickea? Tamari would have a field day if that defense has to come out of the paint next year to guard perimeter players.

They need to get Key the ball first, and none of the current players on the roster have proven they can consistently feed the post. Her and Jackson work best when they get the ball in their spots.

Tennessee will beat up on teams that can’t match their size, but they are too easily contained if they slow down Jackson and actually guided the rest of the perimeter players. None of them will beat solid defenders off the bounce and Key shines most on defense. She’s not the kind of player that will take over on offense.

A long way of saying they need an elite PG and an athletic wing who can shoot to pair with Jackson and Key.

You know why Alexus Dye was as successful as she was when she wanted to score and rebound, because all of the attention in the paint was on Tamari. Alexus could not play on the perimeter. We now have players in the 4 spot that can and it should clear that paint out some because our current 4 players can score out to the three point line and both Caroline and Jillian are good passers as well. They will also probably improve their overall skillsets over the course of another off-season. I would expect Tennessee to look very different on how they score next year, but they will still score at a very high level.

I will miss Jordy and so am appreciative of what she did for the Lady Vols. I think she will benefit greatly from being on a pro team in which she doesn't have to mentally carry the load of leading the team, which most pro teams should fit that bill. It will be fun to follow her in her career. I do think she ultimately will make it in the WNBA even though few newcomers do these days.

I don’t know about that, as a Sg she has a lot of limitations, she doesn’t handle the ball well or shoot well from mid range or the 3, but I think she could be a good defender.
Go away and rise from the ashes somewhere else.

It wasn’t just Tamari. You also had Burrell and Horston on the wings that were very difficult to guard 1-on-1 and could attack off the dribble. Jackson is a better version of Dye, but not a player you want trying to score by putting the ball on the floor. All the perimeter/wing players are catch and shoot players. They aren’t going to score on you in multiple ways.

The team without guard replacements for Horston and Walker will not be any better than this year’s team.

Up there with Meigan Simmons and Diamond DeShields among the most enigmatic, polarizing players to come through here...
That's a little extreme, esp the polarizing part. It was hard not to love and root for Jordy, even though she could be super exasperating at times. I admire her for her loyality and for the relationship she built w KJH. That's the cornerstone of the very successful cultural rebuild that's happened. JH and TK get huge credit for that. I'm glad TK is coming back to be a continuing bridge to that culture.
She seemed to be missing good coaching.
See above. IMO KJH has done a fantastic job w Jordy through lots of struggles. Result is Jordy w very impressive career stats and the two of them w a great relationship. Very well done.
They aren't getting something better from the portal.
Yeah that's a sh*t ton of stats to replace.I don't think it will be one player, several will have to step up. We definitely need another PG and another shooting guard.

Agree entirely. I'm excited about our 4-5 potential just the way it is. The frontline should take up some of the scoring slack. I look for Jill to be a real threat at 4.

Overall, I hope our team will be sharper and tighter next season. Should be way less chemistry building and system learning next year. This will be a veteran team w probably just a couple of new players. No reason not to get straight to the biz when practice starts and no reason for crazy rotation experimentation during games. Let's go!

Jackson is very much a player I want trying to score by putting the ball on the floor. You don't think she can get to the rim from the wing? Or get around a defender and stop and pop from midrange? I know her handle is loose but I think she can fix that and also get better enough from 3 to keep the D honest. Those two things are the oncourt reasons for her coming back. Every draft analysis said those were her areas to work on, so reasonable to think that's exactly what she'll do.

In all fairness, Burrell and Horston played very little together that year. Rae never even really returned to her best form and then Jordon broke her elbow shortly after Rae returned. Tamari faced a lot of double and triple teams as a sophomore because we really didn't have that consistent outside shooter or shooters. The thing so impressive with Virginia Tech this year is a 6-6 center who can finish and rebound and shooters that spread you out all over the floor. It is very simple basketball.

Don't try to dictate responses on the board, Ace. Somebody gave a opinion about her skill set and the NBA, and this poster
responded with his/her opinion. Nobody is obligated to post messages that please you.
This is truly a situation where congratulations and appreciation are the only appropriate posts. Nobody wants to see a..h… comments on this thread at this time. You all have plenty of other opportunities to show you butts.

I think Vol fans get Key mixed up with other players. That's the only explanation I can think of for their strangely exaggerated views. Key has never had a "field day" offensively. She is not a traditional scorer in any way. We're talking about a player who averages 2-3 made baskets a game, plus a handful of FTs. She averaged 8 points this season before retiring with her health issue and she averaged 8 points a game the year before--full season. She's never been triple-teamed and I don't remember anyone double-teaming her, either. Just trying to stick to the facts here.....

Horston deserves heartfelt congratulations on her outstanding Vol career. Owing to various issues, she had to carry a big offensive load
for us for four years--and she usually performed well, and often very well, even when opponents knew she was UT's go-to scorer and defended her aggressively. She was also a strong rebounder, an imposing defender--and she always gave good effort on both ends of the court. Jordan was stalwart--our mainstay-- and as such she will be greatly missed. She leaves a big hole in the lineup. I wish her much professional success and happiness in the years ahead.
