While Florida is a rival, I’m not giving him a ton of credit for going 2-2 against them. They’re an awful program right now. There’s still no excuse for 20
As many have said on here, no matter how bad or how good Florida is or has been over the years they have found a way to beat us or we have found way to lose to them. So I am extremely happy with our progress so far. While Florida is a rival, I’m not giving him a ton of credit for going 2-2 against them. They’re an awful program right now. There’s still no excuse for 2023.
Who all did Bama lose? Tennessee losing a 1/3 and Bama losing 1/3 looks quite different. Bama is still stocked on both sides of the ball.I like what JP put together. And I don't believe this is something to quibble over.
But, I think if we get a mulligan because a third of our roster leaves, then Bama should get a mulligan for their roster loss since Saban's retirement. I know the two programs were in different strata of competition when the loss occurred.
We've been talking for a few years now about how we'll know Josh is for real when he starts beating the best teams in the SEC and nation.
We've defined the best as our three top rivals: Florida, Bama, and Georgia. Starting in 2024, let's add Texas and Oklahoma (even if OK is, like FL, a basket case this season).
Well, take away 2021 because Josh shouldn't be tarred with that brush--not with the mass defection of many of our best players (remember, 35 of a roster of 85--over a third--and probably mostly the best third, talent wise, left or were asked to leave with Pruitt).
So not counting 2021, Josh is now 5-4 against those top rivals. Yep, winning record against the gators, dawgs, tide, and sooners (we haven't played Texas yet).
Can we make it 6-4 here in a few weeks? Sure hope so.

Sorry to pile on, but agree with others. This is a pretty dumb post. Over the last 20 years there’s been a lot of years we were the better team or at least even, and blew the opportunity so many times. While Florida is a rival, I’m not giving him a ton of credit for going 2-2 against them. These are the posts I like. Thanks for sharing this info!BTW, just realized this. Josh Heupel and Kalen DeBoer were practically neighbors, growing up.
Josh raised in Aberdeen, SD (pop about 28,000). DeBoer in Milbank (pop about 3,000). Both small towns in the NE corner of the state.

Maybe 75 miles apart, in a state without a lot of population centers.
Not only that, they're about the same age. DeBoer is a couple of years older.
So they'd have overlapped in their high school years. They might even have played against each other.
Out of all the places in the world you can be from, what are the chances we have two head coaches for two of the SEC's leading programs, both from northeastern South Dakota?
Heh.

Kinda reminds me about the late 80’s through early 2000’s. Pat Dye retired and so did Vince Dooley. Ole Miss let Brewer go and LSU had Gerry Dinardo, a Vandy plant. Bama was rotating coaches and going in and out of Probation. Kentucky and Vandy were primarily basketball schools while USCe and Arkansas were trying to get their footing from ‘92 on. Auburn stole Tubberville and while he had a couple of good years including the undefeated ‘04 year, he wasn’t that great. Then you had us and a Spurrier led Florida tearing up the SEC. Other than us, and them, the SEC for the most part, was down. So, a coach is judged by wins and losses, but because it's a Tennessee coach we have to judge on a different scale? Makes sense.
So, because Heupel did what our other horrible coaches couldn’t do, he’s the real deal? I certainly think he’s better than those guys and I think he’s done wonders for our program, but not because he’s gone 2-2 against UF in a 4 year stretch where they will have a losing record. I’ll give him credit for a whole bunch of things, but that’s a bridge too far.Sorry to pile on, but agree with others. This is a pretty dumb post. So you’re going to look in the players faces that played those games and state that the games didn’t mean as much as other years. GTFO!Kinda reminds me about the late 80’s through early 2000’s. So, wins over Bama back then didn’t mean as much as the ‘22 win. The ‘98 and ‘01 wins over Florida were more valuable than the last two. How many Georgia wins did we have over Jim Donnan and Ray Goff before Richt came in? IIRC, he beat us with inherited players his first year.
So, to answer your question, kinda. These wins are not the same as if we had beaten Saban more than once or Florida during the Urban years or, Auburn when the were playing for NC’s. We did beat a Les Miles LSU team once when they should have been playing for the NC.
