Notes, quotes and observations...
* Bruce Pearl of Tennessee, Travis Ford of Oklahoma State, Mike Krzyzewski of Duke, John Thompson III of Georgetown, Herb Sendek of Arizona State, and assistant Rod Strickland of Kentucky spent much of their day at Rancho High School for the bracket round of the adidas Super 64. They were watching teams such as Grassroots Canada (last year's champ and odds-on favorite this year), Atlanta Celtics, New England Playaz, and Baltimore Assault.
* Speaking of Baltimore Assault, news-story-of-the-month Josh Selby had a nice game of 19 points, but the Assault bowed out early to the New England Playaz. Selby can shoot well, play defense, and has good court vision, but he seemed to press a little when his team had to fight from behind. Apparently, all the attention he has attracted after de-committing frm Tennessee recently has taken a toll on he and his mother. After their loss, Selby was not allowed by his mother to talk to the press. "All I have seen in the past couple of weeks," Selby's mother, Maeshon, angrily explained, "is people taking my words and twisting them after we give interviews. Everybody now thinks that this is all a Kentucky-Tennessee thing, and it isn't. De-committing is Josh's right, if he wants. Nobody wants to print the truth." The issue was not pressed.
