JRM development

He may get passed over as starter by other new LB studs (Jakob Johnson, Bryant, Weatherd, Bates, etc), but at the very least I expect him to be in 2 deep rotation with lots of snaps. He currently is as good or better than two of last year's starters and will get much better by August.

If possible, CBJ would like to Redshirt at least one of those LBs so he can build future depth.

We will be much improved on LBs and Secondary next season. I also think DL will be as good as last year to start out (post Saulsberry & Couch) with noticeable improvement after a few games.

Really don't see that. JRM will prob be your third backer next yr and a damn good one. Love how every yr we hype the new guys then a yr later we hype the next class and say the year before guys will get surpassed. It's going to be hard to keep maybin off the field.

I expect a depth chart similar to this:

1.JRM 2. Bryant or Bates
Johnson & Johnson
1. Maggitt 2. Weathard

and then I remember, we also have Creamer & Perhaps Elliot Berry.

My guess is CBJ will allow the legacy and new recruit DEs take that position. But if no one rises up, then Maggitt might get the job.

Our secondary is gonna be so good, maybe we should use 3 DEs and just go with 4 DBs on the back end 5-3-4. lol That might peg the sack meter.

I feel that Creamer will need some time to grow into the LB position. I wonder if he will get redshirted.

He has been getting a lot of playing time in Spring drills. I guess we find out when the rest of the LBs arrive this Summer.

I like our options this year much better than last season. AJ might be a lot better with more rest and less plays.

I remember during Oregon we started out ok and then by the 3rd series the lack of depth started really hurting us, especially against a fast team like the quacks.

Nice. I see Bryant as more of a Mike tho. Dude just plugs holes and blows ppl up.

I agree with you that we are bringing in some studs at LB. Not trying to call you out at all or anything but every year people think freshmen are going to start over guys who have been here. Also, we definitely are bringing in some studs at LB like we said but JRM is no slouch in that respect, he's got a ton of potential and I personally don't see him losing a starting spot to a freshman. He's a very good athlete and has a great football IQ. He does need to put on a little more weight but not much. I think 220-230 (230 max) is perfect for him bc I don't want his to lose any of that quickness or athleticism which are some of his best attributes. He's could be one of the best cover LBs we've had in a while. He's one of the guys on defense from the '13 class that I'm the most excited to see how they've progressed along with guys like Sutton, Foreman, Vereen, and Carr.

Penalty flags everywhere... I'll allow it...

Does anyone know how his development is going? I am assuming he might be starting or in a good rotation spot. I think the kid is going to be a solid defender with the glimpses of him last year. He stuck some people on KR and not to mention blocked that punt.
He will find himself recruited over when August practice starts. Kid from Florida is far better.:hi:

I didn't say he would, I said he might. JRM looks great so far and we know from special teams that he is a playmaker.

I think we were in a 5-3-4 formation on the last play against LSU a couple of years ago. Or was it a 5-3-5?:loco:

Oh the shame!

To quote Barbie: "Math Class is Tough!"

I sarcastically meant 3 DEs in a 5-3-3 with that bulletproof secondary.

I have to be honest, I was not educated about the nickel but I did some research. It seems like a good formation for us to use in this age of football. As for JRM, it could turn him into a sack monster (hope so). He has the speed which is great for the blitz and when he has to drop back. If he can learn how to shed blocks well then he can wreak havoc in the backfield.

I'll take "People Who Have No Idea What They're Talking About" for $500, Alex.

Our football team is ran similarly too uk's basketball team, our incoming freshman are always so awesome no one on the team is going to start over them. JRM was a ballhawk, he just needed to add a little size or he probably wouldve played alot more last year.

That was my point. JRM is good; he's not getting recruited over.

I think with a young D line. Our LB's are going to have a big impact on this team at least the first couple of games. Then our D-Line should pick up some of the slack.

Obviously JRM has a lot of relatives and high school friends on this website. The Bates kid is better. He will end up starting if not game one, then by no later than game 2. Lets remember this prediction and see if I don't eat crow before September ends.

What other freshman do you project starting for UT by years end?
