‘23 JUCO DL Elijah Davis (uscjr commit)

I don’t believe at all we would turn down the #1 JuCo DL and would absolutely take him over a middle of the road transfer at this point. We need to fill up our 25 class with as many studs as possible and doesn’t sound like we are in on many others for the early signing period. I suspect we will have more guys transfer our creating a lot of room to add transfers this spring. Plus besides Bru MvCoy we really have come up shot on most big name transfers

They do not recruit by the rankings. If they like a certain guy better that’s who they will take. It’s absolutely wild ppl on here don’t trust Rodney Garner of all people.

No one knew about Castles until it happened. We don’t know who all they’re tracking or talking to

There’s this transfer named Hendon Hooker who was pretty good

Oh no, a body blow to the "ranking sites are golden" crowd. See posters talking about how it's not possible UT would turn down THE #1 JUCO DL. Wait our coaches might have evaluated a number of players and determined someone else would be a better fit to help UT win games!?!? Can't be....a website put a #1 and some stars beside his name.

Lol. This is cute. Saban and Smart say hi from their thrones chief.

Some folks would rather have the #1 college recruiting class than the #1 college football team...

Generally, I’ll believe the higher ranked player is better in the absence of any other information, but if Heupel wants/doesn’t want a guy, that easily trumps everything else. He gets the benefit of the doubt for sure.

Have you ever noticed how player rankings change? Often after commitments? Sometimes, without even playing…or sometimes a player moves down after playing well?

Rankings can be adjusted to fit a narrative. If I want to look like an expert evaluator, I will adjust my rankings to match the evaluations of the coaches winning the most. And often, that will work out so a player I rated a 4 or 5 star becomes a stud. But a true expert evaluator ranks a player highly based on what the evaluator sees, not by following others.

How many of these website nerds rated Arion Carter a 4* before Saban noticed him? None. But Saban starts going after him and suddenly he jumps in the rankings. Same player.

Yes, the highest ranked classes tend to match the teams that win the most…Often because players are ranked higher when those teams pursue them. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy, not an indication of the evaluation abilities of the website nerds.

Discussion on the strategy of portal players: The staff moves to slow(culture fit etc) and can't seem to make up their mind who they want in the portal, while others just swoops in and get "top" players.

We aren't aggressive enough it seems, but according to some on this board and the mods we aren't allowed to question the strategy. It seems like the staff has a hard time making up their mind on who they want to pursue. Other teams don't seem to have this issue.

No I agree TN feels like they are cold calling at times…not all the time…but certainly some. Some kids know before they go in…not all but definitely some…There are just a large portion that go in that TN doesn’t have interest in…No matter what fans think of a former 4star

I also wonder if our staff isn’t tampering as much as others.
