‘23 JUCO DL Elijah Davis (uscjr commit)

Lol. This is cute. Saban and Smart say hi from their thrones chief.
And A&M and Miami say hello to YOU from theirs... chief.

Saban and Smart find talent. You are "impressed" that the recruiting sites are able to recognize that and bump the recruits they pursue. It is a good move on their part... it just doesn't prove what you believe.

Bama cooled on him last week now we have. Gotta think this is a direct effect of the portal. Lots of the Analysts were saying these kids need to get in quick or they will lose spots and he may be one of them. Sad that two or three weeks ago he could likely have been a commit to either school now he may fall to South Carolina or worse.
Why use an official visit then? Could it be something happened on an OV and now some programs are becoming aware of it? Just weird that so many schools changed their minds at once on him.

Could be the reason we backed off. We want a plug and play guy.

I honest think we are fine at DT with the current roster. Everybody is coming back it appears.
Could be. I’m sure we’re fine developing interior guys but a JUCO kid you probably want immediate impact.

A JUCO guy showing up at 265 that was supposed to be around 300 pounds is concerning. That's just too much of a discrepancy. Especially if it's not an extremely lean and fit 265.
Coach Garner ostensibly visited him about a month ago so I am having a hard time digesting the weight theory.Surely Coach Garner would have raised the red flag at that point and cancelled his OV. There may be other reasons for not taking him but the weight reason just does not wash.

Portal is the reason. A month ago there was a limited menu left for players. Now there is a buffet and they are trying to choose what they want and just like my wife they cant decide.

RC doesn’t say something without it being 100% fact. Haven’t seen the actual quote though.

"Did the staff pass on Elijah Davis for Lefitte? "
No…they would take davis over DL and I don’t think they are taking Davis

"Austin…Elijah Davis…what’s the reason?"
You gotta remember official visits are different than unofficials where there's a bunch of guys here. You are around the prospect much more. You can't work them out but you do more measurables and testing and a more detailed history things, etc. You get to know them better, etc, etc.

That's why coaches like out of season officials better than in-season because of the time you get around them and the information you can gather.

And after this weekend, we don't believe Davis is a take at this point.

was always a running gag during the butch years that he would, instead of seeing red flags, embrace them, so as to appear "cool" with the kids

if there isn't a cultural fit, moving along is the right call. They are football coaches, not therapists. If i'm correct in my assumption here, I'm glad to see this with our staff
