Clearly you are smarter than me. In the profession of coaching college football, what job is higher than Tennessee and why?

Well, where would you like to begin? Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU....and there are more. All those programs have a rich tradition full of success and the pay is much higher than UT's with athletic programs in much better financial shape than UT's. I love this college, but i don't let my love for the university detract me from reality.

Decided to eat dinner and come back to this.

We are miles apart on opinion and I disagree with pretty much everything you say (here). I don't think we'll get anywhere trying to discuss it.

Hope we have a great season! Go Vols!

While the lack of winning has heavily impacted their finances (especially home game attendance), they also have SPENT/INVESTED an enormous amount to upgrade the stadium and facilities.

If Butch proves to be a good coach, here, then it will all pay off. In fact, I do believe all the $$$ spent on these upgrades have heavily impacted recruiting for the better. It says "FIRST CLASS" in every way. It's also one reason why UT was so attractive to Butch, when everyone is crying like a battered wife..."No one wants the job!"

What's more is recruits had no success, no winning record in Dooley's coaching history to give them any confidence in this program. That held this program back considerably. Even the players themselves, gave up on Dooley toward season's end, the past two years.

It ALWAYS boils down to $$$ regardless of university. How many coach's turned down Tennessee before Jones took the job? Don't get me wrong, I'm all in in supporting Coach Jones but lets be realistic. He has no ties to Tennessee other than cashing that fat check.

Butch wanted this job. He said it in 11, 12, and this year. He wanted it since he entered Neyland in '11 if not before.

Apparently a position has to provide no challenge. Only then is it desirable enough to someone who wants to prove he's the best. :p

This is like pointing to left field being swinging at the first pitch. Butch had better deliver with all of this talk. Lets hope.
I don't know about that. No one is really going to remember this at season's end. And this is not a prediction that the SEC won't have us to kick around anymore. It's simply Butch injecting some energy and hope into a fanbase suffering from the battered wife syndrome.

Frankly, I think he's on target. He is the ONLY coaching hire, since Fulmer was fired, to have a WINNING record coming in. That's no small thing. He expects to turn the team around, and unlike the Kiffin and Dooley years, we have good reason to expect it, as well.

Anything worth having is paid with a great price. There is no such thing as a no challenge job. Especially at the biggest of schools. Ambition is what made America great.

I hope you understand that's his point of view and not mine.

And even though I believe Butch is like every other coach in the world in that his loyalty is going to fall by whoever is signing his check I do believe he will work hard to make UT an elite program both on and off the field again. I hope he succeeds....and i hope nobody offers more pay...LOL (Ex: Nick Saban, Lane Kiffin)(Had to get that last shot in there :) )

That's great, but you really can't tell someone else they are wrong.

He was wrong. It's a fact that UT is a top coaching job in college football. All time results don't lie. Just because we're not on top of the world right now doesn't mean we don't know or haven't been there before. All the big dogs have been in a slump just like we have and we're gonna climb out of it very soon.

May not hurt that he currently has the no. 1 recruiting class in the nation for 2014 either.... Considering we are off back to back to back losing seasons.
