Just called Griner "Best Women's player ever"

this made me laugh MUCH harder than it should have.

I'm glad I'm not crazy/alone though. It seems like the only person who disagrees is a UK fan, and the fact they even have internet is quite impressive so I don't hold it against them.

But I want to point out, I would've made this topic if they had said that comment against any team, Not just tennessee, because it sounded like one of the biggest stretches I've heard in quite a long time. I mean, I know very little about women's basketball personally, especially before 2003 or so, but I can name at least ten women better than her. I mean the girl from Delaware this year was better than her. You can't be greatest all time and not even be the best that particular year it's said.

I was just being a smartass because he called the stanford girls ugly nappy headed hos and called the lady vols "lady like" and "pretty."

I agree though, we don't just get good ball players/athletes, we get girls who are hot as hell (softball this year especially).

I think it was Rutgers

IMO, she's in the conversation for top 5. Definitely top 10. THE best? Ehhhh...she would probably be considered the best if she had at least 1 title at this point.

That's what I thought as well. But they praise her like she's this once in a life time talent when she's just a once in a life time 6'8 XX chromosome. I think about it like this. The greatest talents in women's ball won multiple titles in college, Griner has found a way to win none so far.

I just think if you did an all time team in terms of talent she wouldn't be on it. But if you did say an all defensive team (something that requires no talent) she'd be first.

I think she's just a junior, so she could very well win 2 by the time she's done. That PG that went off last night is just a soph.

For the record, I think that only counting offensive talent is stupid and you can't say that she's only good because she's gigantic. If Wilt was 5'5" he wouldn't have scored 100 points in a game, but nobody holds his size against him.

Taurasi in my opinion was the best woman's player ever. Very talented and intelligent, kinda cocky but that's cool. I think Griner is the womens version of Shaq, probably most dominating player ever but not the best.

Did anyone hear her TV interview? If you closed your eyes, she sounds like a man. I am sure she has been checked out, but WOW!

Lol the butthurt is all over this forum.

Whether talentless or not, Griner changes the game no matter what side she is on. She is easily to be considered in the discussion of the best ever.

Just because we disagree with what ESPN said while we lost a game we all expected to lose, doesn't mean we are "butthurt."

I agree that she is a tremendous game changer. But, she's not the best player ever, if you're basing it on basketball talent. I thought UK fans were supposed to be knowledgeable about basketball. I'm guessing you didn't begin to glance at women's hoops until the past couple of seasons.

Vols...admit it.

Griner is easily one of the best. Lucky genetics or not, she changes the game completely.

One of the best, yes.

She is probably the most dominating physically that I have watched. She is also on a team that has some good players as well, which always helps.

I think that one day the truth will come out about Griner having an operation or taking male hormones. Something is just not right.

She's a smart post player, knows how to alter a players shot while limiting her fouls making it diffcult for ACTUAL women, who are not all 6'8", to score on her. She is by no means the greatest women's player ever....

In our frame of reference, being TN fans....she is no where near Chamique Holdsclaw or Candance Parker.

in the reference of UCONN, shes not even close to Maya Moore

Yes and no. She does alter shots but she is allowed to get away with a lot of things too. She is a media dude, I mean darling.

True but does Wilt still get talked about very much as the best ever?

The girl/guy IS dominant defensively, no doubt. But as far as skill set she isn't even close to the best.

Wilt did when he played and is still considered definitely top ten. I would put Griner and the exact same four teammates against any player that has ever played with the same four teammates.

I never watched this girl play, but I think Holdsclaw was better than Parker, but I'll have to say Taurasi is the best college player I've ever seen.

Add Nikki McCray to that group. Actually, she was better than Holdsclaw and probably better than Parker

You must have never played basketball before if you think blocking 6 or 7 shots a game without fouling out any this year, takes no skill. Do I think she is the best player ever to play, no. I wouldn't even say shes the best in college right now, Ana Della Dona is years ahead of Griner on the offensive side of the ball and can play every spot on the floor.

I played plenty of ball actually, and every coach I had said the same thing virtually.

The least talented player in the world can be the best defender, it takes heart, effort, and a high ball IQ. Two of which are traits you can't "practice" and the third of which you generally either have or don't.

Examples come to mind like Ron Artest and Dennis Rodman. As all around basketball players they were meh. As Defensive stoppers (and rebounders in Rodmans case) they were the best in the league at one time or another.

Yes there is michael and kobe for example on the opposite end, but their work ethic and attitudes are what made them such amazing defensive players, not just their physical talents.

That's beside the point. She changes the game and dominates everyone.

Yep, what a game changer..He...errr..she??..definitely made the Top 10 List of most classless acts by a basketball player (man or woman) when she threw a premeditated punch that ended another players season with a broken nose and jaw..And Mulkey suspended her 2 games...TWO GAMES!!!..No respect for either...EVER...
