Just read Limbaugh's comments in context

After seeing Ms. Fluke a few days ago on video here was my first thought.

Our education system is failing. We have lesbians in law school that think they need birth control.

I'm withdrawing my advertising from Lexvol's BBQ and Bait Emporium for this offensive comment. I urge all others to follow and stop this menace

I still think the whole thing is nuts. It's clearly not about what he said WRT Fluke - it's about what he says (conservative viewpoints) that motivated the campaign to get advertisers to drop him.

I just don't see why people can't just not listen to viewpoints they oppose rather than try to silence them.

If your position is that he has a right to say his view, then you must concede the right of advertisers (or customers) to object by yanking $.

Of course they have the right - I've said it over and over and over. They can do what they want and should.

Just to head off another misreading - people have the right to boycott. They have the right to petition. They have the right to try to get people they disagree with taken off the air.

Neither of those issues was my point.

Sheesh

That's not what I took him to mean. Note the boldened:

You may or may not agree with this but I don't think VB's observation was ever about advertisers not "having a right" to yank $.

of course they should actually listen to those shows first.

A better idea might even be to start your own show. The libs could call it Air USA or something. Bet it would be wildly successful

I agree that they can drop whoever they please and absolutely should. It's about business.

My point is that of the people who are pressuring advertisers to drop many are:

1) not Rush listeners to begin with
2) doing so because of his political views, not because of these particular comments.

If he offends, don't listen. Why bother trying to organize some action against him for some offensive comments?

I find Bill Maher mildly offensive (and generally not funny) but I'm not writing HBO to dump him or threatening to cancel my HBO sub. I find Schultz and Maddow highly annoying but I'm not writing MSNBC sponsors to drop them. In both cases I simply don't tune in.

Agreed on both points. I think those who are pushing to shut him down will find themselves satiated if they just let things happen. The fact that they're pushing to silence the most influential right wing radio host in the world only makes them look like, dare I say it, commies.

Honestly it doesn't seem that much worse to me then his "femi-nazi" rants that he has been doing for 20 years.

i dont see this getting rid of a guy who's been on the air for 30 years with his own broadcasting company.

Not going to read this entire thread, but just for some talking points I will say this, First, I hate that the government would force us to use forms of BC. However, I am looking at the positive side of this, there would be a lot less unplanned babies, I would go on a hunch here and assume that these unplanned babies just grow up and vote for the freebies. So in all honestly that could be deemed as a good thing. I will wait for my lolz

You may want to read the thread, because I think you've missed the point of the entire debate.

why do people care about this? limbaugh can call whomever he wants a 'slut' and sponsors can take their money away. SSDD.

again, it's kept the economy out of the news

who cares about $5/gallon gas when Rush Limbaugh has just called some college girl a "slut"?

I throw Maher into the same category with Colbert and Stewart. They used to be funny and interesting. Now...the thrill is gone.

Bill maher actually has this exactly right.....

Let’s have an amnesty — from the left and the right — on every made-up, fake, totally insincere, playacted hurt, insult, slight and affront. Let’s make this Sunday the National Day of No Outrage. One day a year when you will not find some tiny thing someone did or said and pretend you can barely continue functioning until they apologize.
