Just rewatched the Tennessee/Bama game

I just said College. That has nothing to do with whether he busts or becomes the GOAT in the NFL. For some thier game translates for others, no. Tee Martin couldn't make the NFL cut, but I would take no other for that 98 college season.
Yeah, size has a lot to do with NFL success, especially at QB. Tee Martin was a good college QB, but nowhere near as good in college as Young. Not even in the stratosphere

Watching last years games, I've been sobered at how often we benefited from the other team's key injuries. Expect this season to be a tougher row to hoe. A lot of things fell our way (for a change) last season.

William Campbell was playing CB on the last drive of the Alabama game. It’s not because he was good.

Since he's gone, I'll write this blasphemy. Watching that game made me wonder if BY was not the absolute best QB I have ever seen in my 58 years on this earth. Watched Marino, Tebow etc etc. Watching what he was able to do in that game alone was literally unreal. Literally. He's like Roger "the Dodger" Staubach on steroids. Complete ice in his veins in a wild environment.

Here were some I remember from watching this game 2 or 3 times ...
That play where he juked Beasley out of his shorts twice in a crazy scramble ending with a dart for 1st Dn or TD(?) was just magical. Then the play where he scrambles, eventually sprints right 15 yards out of the busted pocket, slams on the brakes, then perfect gets his balance and feet under him and throws a dart for a 1st down was mind boggling. Finally that short TD from about the 5 or 10 YL where he scrambles, then runs right toward the goal line, stops on a dime, the pass defense all collapses to stop him from scoring a run TD, it's absolute chaos is in every direction yet he softly and with perfect touch flicks an impossible to drop pass to the TE Lattu(sp?) standing now wide open in the middle of a crowded end zone. Jaw dropped on floor!

Honestly, I can't think of a player with the presence of mind, skill, and athleticism of that kid. I cannot say enough about how happy I am that he went to get paid millions in pro football. Had Bama played the backup, we probably win that game by 2-3 TDs with the energy and focus our players, fans, and staff had that night. He and that friggin' RB from Dalton, GA were spectacular ... until they weren't on their next to last offensive play ... :-D

I hate to say this but I agree. His talent, ability, and intangibles are off the charts. If he had the size and frame to match, he probably could have been the greatest QB prospect to enter the NFL.

On another note, what stands out to me the most about this game is the scoop and score off the fumbled handoff between Hendon and Jabari. Not the fumble itself but what transpired afterwards. This was basically a groundhog day scenario where something devastating always seems happens when playing Florida or Bama. After a demoralizing blow like that, I cant think of a team after 98 that wouldn't give up and fold over. MY BVS got the best of me at this moment too. But this team and coaching staff didnt flinch. They stayed composed, never put their head down, regrouped, and continued to carry the fight to Bama. And we all know what happened afterwards. Thats when I knew we had the right coach.

Just my opinion, and not a popular one, I think Tee Martin was overrated. I understand why people rate him so high. He was the quarterback of our national championship team. He was a great leader, and an overall great guy, no doubt. But as a QB, he was extremely inconsistent. We almost lost the Syracuse, Florida, and Auburn games solely because of him. He also did not play well against Arkansas, but our defense didn’t show up in the first half of that game. And he did not improve at all from ‘98 to ‘99. In fact, losing Cutcliffe and Peerless really exposed Tee’s deficiencies as a passer. He just was not very accurate.

Don’t get me wrong. I love the guy. He’s a VFL that I’m always proud of, and I wish he was on our current staff. He just was not as good as many Vol fans remember.

Still doesn’t matter how many times I watch it… I have no idea how that kick made it through. That’s the longest knuckleball I’ve ever seen. It had to have been tipped.

The drive that followed was the ugliest mess of bad plays, penalties ... But it ended with #11 and his 5th TD somehow. There is a webcam vid of Eli Gold on Alabubba's radio play by play booth. Those guys were pulling out their hair while that ensued. 🤣

Exactly, Young was so dynamic I found myself shaking my head several times. It had to be frustrating for our D they had him sacked several times but he did his Houdini escape and by that time he would look up not only avoid a loss but complete a pass. IMO he should have won Heisman he was best in college football..
I don't think they get anywhere near the QB production this year. I think they will rotate QBs Simpson (pass) and Milroe (run), although the transfer from Notre Dame Buchner a longshot IMO.

This is exactly the reason I think the Vols are victorious in Tuscaloosa this year. Bryce Young isn't on the sidelines anymore, and even if you put Milroe and Simpson together in a lab, they still don't equal Young. The game last year gets out of hand in our favor without Young, and that's a hill I'm willing to die on. Milroe has better wheels than Young, but can't throw worth a ****, and I doubt highly that Simpson has Young's ability to work magic (like the pass to Latu last year that someone else mentioned).

41-20 Vols to make it two in a row.

Having beaten Bama with him as QB just makes the win sweeter because Bama fans can't use him not playing as an excuse.
The loss to tenn chaps that red ass. I love it. My turd friends continued piping about it not being a rivalry and wanting it to be. Well heck both teams have to be winning games between each other for that to be a rivalry. They lose one time and it is the end of the world. Screw them.

This is kind of a rules question. On Hyatt’s 2nd td that made it 21-7 they reviewed it. So if he doesn’t contact the endzone the ball must cross inside or over the pylon. If they had deemed neither occurred would it have been a touchback and Bama ball? Essentially the same as fumbling the ball out of the endzone?

It’s amazing the emotional swings a person can have even when you know the outcome. I’m glad Bryce Young is gone and I hope our defense has improved. 🤣

You got that right. Ala fans still complain about the refs. I've rewatched it twice the last few weeks and sat with an Ala fan cuz and we watched it without our Orange and Crimson glasses. Even he said he didn't understand a lot of fans blaming the refs. We stopped every penalty and would agree or disagree. Obviously there was missed OL holdings on both sides. The only secondary penalty we both said was missed was actually when the Ala WR pulled down our secondary guy. Yet Ala got the first down and scored. I will say the refs missed the hit on Young. One of those should have been targeting. But outside of that, The other penalties were all very obvious. The refs actually missed a few other PO's on Ala's D. Nobody in their right mind can complain about it. Just an excuse for Ala fans.

It was a beautiful setting for us having a monumental victory. Can you imagine how much excuse making would be if Young had not played??? If not we would’ve beat them by 100. Before the interception was called back for PI, I had that ole disgusted feeling I had when butch blew those big lead games.

I’ve probably watched the highlights from the Bama game 10 times. Kentucky, FLA and LSU games too. Can’t get enough WINNING!

I’m with ya, but the refs also missed an egregious targeting on Hooker down in Tuscaloosa the year before. Kind of evened out, but I still don’t like those calls getting missed on anyone.
