According to the article Matt put up, Baty has assumed the starting role. He sure didn't say anything about competing for the starting job.

That's what is confusing. One guy swears up and down that Rudock is the starter, One article says Baty is the starter. Either way, I watched some his highlights. He seems to have a pretty decent arm but his footwork and release need some work. Who knows, being at STA could turn him into a star.

There is a video of him on youtube if anyone cares. The person posting it may actually be him... TurnerBatyQB7

Doesn't seem to have the strongest arm but if everything I've read is true then I see no reason not to sign him. Unless the staff believes they are going to get two quarterbacks they like better, I would definitely settle for Bray and this kid if everything I've read about him is true. He is already a 3* on Rivals. Someone said FST is the number one team in the state of Florida. He said he expects to blow up after this season. If he can transfer to the #1 team in Florida and start... he has to be above average. He will be playing with Lamarcus Joyner, Cody Riggs and Michael Palardy. So... I will give him the benefit of the doubt. I trust the staff and if they like him... bring him in. Not to mention he grew up a Tennessee fan which is awesome. Palardy, Turner... Followed by Riggs, Joyner would be nice.

STA isn't only the best team in the state. A lot of people have them listed as the #1 team in the country.

That's awesome if he ends up being the starter. I don't know why a UT fan wouldn't want him if that's the case. Could have a huge season.

FWIW...

St. Thomas Aquinas will look to win their third straight Class 5A state title with a new starting quarterback. Rising senior Turner Baty, 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, is expected to take over after transferring from Menlo-Atherton in Northern California.

I don't have an account, but that's the heading.

Tyler Bray
Tyler Shreve
Tommy Rees
Hutson Mason
Barry Brunetti
Munchie Legaux
Turner Baty
Garrett Grayson
Bo Wallace
Cameron Newton

That's all I can think of. That's 10. Those are guys that we keep regular contact with and are going to watch this fall very closely and there are probably more we don't know about.

We don't keep in touch with Jesse Scroggins ?

Also,

The top priority for St. Thomas in training camp: find a replacement for quarterback Ryan Becker, the 2008 team MVP who went 29-1 in two years as a starter.

It is believed that the two young men vying for the job are Turner Baty and Jake Rudock, although all Smith would say on the matter is, ``We've got two guys competing.''

I hope not. I don't want Scroggins after everything that happened. Most kids don't make their commitment into a spectacle so early in the process.

First he was going to sign this day, then he moves it back... then he moves it back again. Then he says early playing time is important. Plans his commitment just so College Football Live announces it. For what? Nobody is going to USC based off his commitment. Anyone who signs this class will play with Barkley and most likely go pro before Scroggins ever starts. I for one no longer want Scroggins. USC should paint a rock for him that says Scroggins + USC = 1 year red shirt + 3 years on the bench.

Bray. All day, everyday.

If I had to guess he will be over recruited and it should say 1 year red shirt + 4 years on the bench

If Scroggins said today that he's switching his commitment from USC to UT, you'd welcome him with open arms, and you know it.

Wow, Sab actually put the words Munchie and QB in the same post. But, I don't think the staff is too high on Mason nor Munchie as of late.

baty is the starter. Per him, so thats what I reported.

Also, regarding his stats, 1,800 yards is a solid Junior season and I am sure some people are turned off by that. However, his team did play in a Wing T offense that was run oriented. He told me last year in Cali he was the only QB and thus couldn't get hurt. SO he did lots of handing off and getting out of the way.

During his spring game Baty really blew up and did really well. Oregon was on him early and looking to offer him but the Ducks picked up a QB from cali and backed off.

I really like this kid. Thanks Matt for getting him on the horn. With that talent around him against that competition, I think UT will be all over him and can see us pulling him out of there along with one or two of his teammates.

On Baty's starting possibilities, this from the 10th:

It is believed that the two young men vying for the job are Turner Baty and Jake Rudock, although all Smith would say on the matter is, "We've got two guys competing.''

I've seen other reports saying that Rudock is the better looking player, but I wouldn't be surprised either way. I think Rudock will end up being more highly recruited next year than Baty this year. He has more upside.
