I don't think Mitch wanted to risk itThey might lose 'em anyway so if that's the case then they might as well go for broke but it's not for me to say. Politically more than 3 Senators might say they can't support a lame duck nomination
I said at the time and I'll say it again now: Republicans screwed up the Merrick Garland nomination. They had a comfortable majority in the Senate. They should have let the nomination come to a vote and then voted him down. Now they'll look like hypocrites.
Exactly. The American people didn't re-elect Obama in 2012 to only serve 3 years. Garland was nominated in March of 2016. Obama still had 20% of his 2nd term in office left. That is a lot of time left to be calling someone a "lame duck".But what about in 2012 when Obama was reelected and his candidate didn't get a vote several months out from the end of his term? Didn't the American people vote for four more years of Obama? I'm confused on how it was okay to do that then but not okay now.
I don't like Rush Limbaugh, and statistically speaking, he will probably die within the next 4 years, but that doesn't make me feel better. I'm sure he has a family and people who care about him. I know I won't gloat over it when it happens.
Do you really think you're more civil than liberals?
No, I think there are independent voters who weigh Supreme Court nominations heavily. Once the Republicans have filled RBG's seat with a conservative, they lose a key talking point for their appeal. It effectively removes the Supreme Court as a deciding factor for voters who prefer conservative justices. Once RBG is replaced with a conservative, any fear of having a liberal court is gone.Do you really think there are moderate Trump supporters who will break for Biden over a SCOTUS nominee? If so, why would they be supporting him in the first place? It makes no sense.
I think there's definitely an argument that an open seat is more valuable to both sides on election day.No, I think there are independent voters who weigh Supreme Court nominations heavily. It's not cool to gloat over someone's death. It is tasteless and obnoxious.I’ll say it on here like I told NGV last night , I’ll be nice out of respect but the virtue signaling won’t fly for long in this thread because ever single person on here knows with the exception of her family , NOBODYs first thought was I’m going to miss her, she was such a good person , the world lost an amazing person , my life is going to have an empty spot now without her in it . 99% of all the first thoughts yesterday were people going OMG this is a huge deal .

Already bracing for all the gun and abortion ad buys.
Weren't the families of those people involved? If the families didn't mind it, then neither should you.The Democrats would never be tasteless and obnoxious. Are they going to hold several funerals and pep rallies in observance of her passing, like they did for John Lewis, George Floyd, and Paul Wellstone?
