Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has passed away

Scalia's seat was the one that was open. Like I said, there really isn't any reason for Biden to do it if the Republicans are determined to fill the seat even before the election. Trump had a chance to fill that seat by winning the election. Biden will not have a chance to fill Ginsburg's seat.
I know Scalia's seat was open and Trump had 20 names give or take of who he would fill supreme court nominees with.
Why won't Biden announce his list of potential nominees? He's already come out and said he would nominate a black woman so he might as well list their names so voters can compare what scotus person they're voting for along with president.
Biden 2+/- black women to choose from for scotus and Trump 20+/- people of all backgrounds. Sounds like you can vote for a racist or Trump.

The polling has been consistently close in that race for the last two months. Graham has a lot of weaknesses as a candidate. Nobody believes that he really likes Trump. He kisses the butt of whoever he needs to, in order to have some power.
Odds are that Graham’s opponent will be hunted down and shot by the Poe lease before the election . No way a black man is safe out on the road every day

Did Donald Trump release a list of possible nominees before the 2016 election of who he would pick to fill Antonin Scalia's seat? It's a sincere question because I honestly don't remember.
I'm not sure. I think the reason neither of us can remember is because it wasn't a big deal in the election. Are you now saying this isn't a big deal in the election season?

ETA: It's not a huge deal to me this go around. I just think it's a great opportunity for Biden to show what kind of president they can expect.

This post made me think of something Dan Bongino talks about often.

He says that conservatives think of liberals as “people with bad ideas” VS hard left liberals who think of conservatives as “bad people with ideas”

It’s a pretty accurate observation based on what we’re seeing in 2020.
I think part of it is because most of the liberal base is young, so they have a hard time seeing all the shades of gray that life experience reveals to you. We all want a better world, we just have different ideas about what makes the world better, and what road we should take to get there.

The only reason that Trump released a list of potential nominees was to shore up support among evangelicals. There’s no reason for Biden to release a list.

I'm not sure how to take hold of the enormity of my error.
No, you were correct. OH, the OP, was not. And the rest of us went merrily along until my curiosity, thanks to you, made me look it up. I then, of course, had to go back and edit my posts for the correct spelling of her name.

OCD is a terrible thing sometimes.

Combined with the indoctrination that so many now receive via the education system and it’s gotten much worse during the internet era (~2000 to present)

You're saying Trump is a candidate that actually released a list of potential supreme court jurists to pander to christians and Biden won't release a list because he isn't pandering to any particular demographic all the while saying he would nominate a black female? You can't make this tuff up.

You don't want to get into the correlation between education, intelligence, and political leanings.
You liberals always like to point out all of your women’s studies, art history, liberal arts and other generally useless degrees as if they’re some kind of badge of honor. There’s also a reason why so many college professors are liberals too..... they couldn’t manage dealing with adults and the challenges of the real world.

Lets see how much Ginsburg’s wishes matter

  • Former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder backed the idea yesterday. When court expansion came up during Democratic primaries last year, Ginsburg said she was opposed.
If the Dems actually add justices IF they take control, the GOP will do the same next chance they get. Playing tit for tat does not help the country. Take the L for now and move on. Always a chance one of the conservative justices vacates for one reason or another. Not wishing death on anyone, but how old is Thomas? There's no reason to add justices to the court to get your way. It's political enough already.

What would be the point? It's a list that will not be used to fill this particular seat. If it wasn't so obvious that the seat will be filled before he takes office, then absolutely he should release a list. Otherwise, it's just a waste of time.
Aha, so the dems should just go along and put up no resistance. Does that mean we can expect you to remain silent on the subject?

Well this goes back decades, but we used to say that those that can do, those that cannot teach.

I don't agree with that assessment. There is plenty of evidence that conservatives think of liberals as being "bad people with bad ideas". When conservatives talk about liberals, they often reference the lunatic fringe element of Antifa, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ayanna Pressley... and the rioters/looters. I never hear conservatives bashing someone like Bob Casey or Joe Manchin. They pick the far left faction, and try and paint it as the face of the whole party.

See? Why would any Senator feel that representing this lot requires consistency? The go-to defense of everything is “the Democrats would do it, too” and the justification for everything is “the evil Democrats will gain power if we don’t!” If their constituents can be conned into believing both of these things simultaneously, why would any Republican senator worry over staying true to the statements they made four years ago?

When partisanship became the entire platform, there was no room left for consistency.
My point was why is it “hypocrisy” only on one side when the other side also took the complete opposite stance last time? Both the republicans and Dems are two sides of the same coin. Most of us are smart enough to know that

Where did I say Biden wasn’t pandering to any particular group? He’s a politician, so obviously he’s going to pander. However at this point there’s no reason for Biden to release a list. Who cares if he says he’s going to nominate a black woman. No one on the left is asking for him to name his potential nominees. There were plenty of people on the right who were asking Trump to do that in 2016.

Emotional craziness is the reason. Period. Unable to accept that it “wasn’t her turn.”
Everything Democrats accuse Republicans of over Trump is exactly true of how they are/were with Hillary. Turn a blind eye because politics align. It goes both ways, and both sides choose to believe otherwise. But, it's been my experience, Dems are a little more die hard in denying it. The defenses of Hillary surpass the defenses of Trump, IMHO. I've heard a lot of Republicans actually admit Trump's a douche, they just don't care. I've not heard any Dem admit how corrupt and horrendous Hillary is/was.

@luthervol, this is how you do it, as opposed to agreeing and then clutching your pearls when it's pointed out what you actually agreed to.

Dan Bongino, with his very quip, was dangerously close to being what he was accusing liberals of being. He was demonizing liberals with gross generalizations by painting liberals as generalizing demonizers. lol

Good points, BB.

You are correct. They don't care that their own elected officials are hypocrites and liars. They have a built-in mechanism of justification where the ends will always justify the means. It's a blended concoction of "what-about-isms", hyperbolic fear-mongering, drawing false equivalencies, with red herring arguments. It's a platform of resentment and hate; nothing that will ever be conducive to bi-partisan legislation or inter-party collaboration. It is purely party over country for Republicans.
Is it “party over country” that Dems are suing state by state to keep third party candidates of the ballots?

To whether Trump is president?
Something like that. Trump being president is a required point to his actual request for your input however.
I'm just curious if the resident lawyer has a constitutional reason against filling the seat that doesn't include "politicians politic and the Republicans are big meanies!".

Aha, so the dems should just go along and put up no resistance. Does that mean we can expect you to remain silent on the subject?
What resistance can they use? They can complain and I expect them to complain a lot ... but ultimately, the Republicans can fill the seat whenever they want to.

Tip his hand? He needs to hide it? "I don't want the voters to know what to expect before they vote for me"? Kind of like Pelosi and Obamacare? We have to vote him in to find out what's in him?
He should just say, "it will be a great pick, the greatest ever, everybody says so, I know who it will be, many experts know and say it's the greatest pick ever, wouldn't you like to know? Maybe I'll give you some hints tomorrow, but trust me, it's great, the fake news will say it's not, but it is, greatest pick ever, maybe even in history, since George Washington Carver was picked a few years ago by that actor guy from California, but the fake news will not tell you that, they hate America and want to see it fail."
